1) the assassination of William McKinley in 1901, which brought about the progressive era

2) the assassination of Anton Cermak in 1933; the world would be different had Cermak not stepped in the way, as Garner was not that bad

3) the assassination of RFK in 1968, which prevented a socialist from winning in 1968

my fear is Obama will use this as an excuse for some sort of foolishness.

Based on what I read, Anton Cermak was the actual intended target. FDR hadn't even been inaugurated as president when it happened.

wiki is not clear, FDR could have been the target, or if not the target could have been hit. a Garner presidency would make a great alternate history novel.
