It's great that Ron is already using his position as subcommittee chairman to start his education campaign. Why wait til 2012? :)

(Noticed he stuttered with 100...and upped it to a million...)

Q: "Gold wedding ring, or a million paper dollars?"
A: "That's exactly what that gold wedding ring will be worth before long!"

Colbert is an interesting character. He generally takes absurdly conservative positions for the purpose of ridiculing those same positions, but in this instance I think he fell flat. Ron Paul is not very easy to rattle or make look foolish.

the problem with colbert is i never really have an idea where he stands..... I think that he is kind of a cartoon character and should be treated the same way.

Ron dealt with Morton Downey Jr 20 years ago and held up very well. That was a very in your face show. The good doctor just keeps getting better with age!

Why don't they [the government] put you on a diet? You're a little overweight!

Which is why Colbert made fun of gold the very next night when Ron Paul wasn't there...he had trouble making fun of it when Ron was there.

That was great! What happened to the naysayers that said "Colbert will not be good to Ron because things are different this time around". Meh...

What's more sad - the number of people that took offense of the comment and missed the message - or that the message ends up being prophetic with government regulation of french fries, school lunch regulations, fast-food menu posting regulations, government healthcare etc.?

David Leonhardt (Krugman's BeeAtch) NYT article(propaganda) one year ago Jan 2010:

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/06/business/economy/06leonhardt.html

A once-marginal proposal (http://www.ronpaul.com/on-the-issues/audit-the-federal-reserve-hr-1207/) — from Representative Ron Paul (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/people/p/ron_paul/index.html?inline=nyt-per), the Texas Republican — that would give Congress the power to review interest rate decisions recently passed the House and will soon be considered by the Senate.
Economists are generally horrified (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704402404574525570583604860.html) by this idea. If Congress could force Fed officials to answer questions about every interest rate move, the process could easily become politicized. A politicized central bank is a first step toward runaway inflation.
But politicizing monetary policy isn’t the only mistake Congress could make. It also could end up going in the other direction and handing Fed officials more power without asking them to grapple with their failures.

The watch comparison was RETARDED!

If he had $1,000,000 cash and some gold that is worth EQUAL value, I would most definitely take the gold, although I would prefer SILVER. :)

Another favorite quote from the Morton show: "If a libertarian had been president, we wouldn't have BEEN in Viet Nam!"
