A really unexpected article from centre-left leaning newspaper "Le Monde". The article is surprisingly fair. Even more, when you realize that nobody knows what is a libertarian in France, let alone a Conservative politician...

There is also an article about well known French economist Frederic Bastiat because Ron Paul told the French journalist, he was a great influence.
Although Bastiat is well known in the English speaking world, only a few of us, here in France have any idea who he is. Everybody is either a keynesian or a marxist in this country, so it's a big event to read about him and Ron Paul in such a mainstream newspaper, almost on the front page.

Bastiat is one of the all-time great thinkers. It is unbelievable that he has been forgotten in his own country. Everyone should read his great work, "The Law"

Bastiat is indeed perhaps the sharpest mind to ever grace the world. He died way to early, such a shame. Even lesser known is his protege, Gustave de Molinari, who wrote one of the first defenses of the private production of security and defense. A great piece of research. I think everyone would do well to at least read The Law & Economic Harmonies. However, especially for this forum there is a great need to delve into his Free-Trade polemics. I am looking at you Anti-Federalist :p

Also, I say this with all sincerity, we owe a great deal of debt to the peoples of France and to their amazing scholarly work. They have perhaps the greatest single body of work produced in the liberal tradition of any Nation, and it is a shame it has been forgotten. The likes of Comte, Turgot, Say, Bastiat, Molinari, and the rest are a treasure trove waiting to be re-discovered. I would be remiss if I did not add in such distinguished fellows as Etienne de La Boetie, Voltaire, and Charles Dunoyer.

LOL... Le Monde is even complaining about his voting "Nay" on the Congressional medal of honor for Mother Teresa, and calling him an isolationist.

Bastiat, unknown in his own country. Wow. Tragic. I hope they check out La Loi (http://bastiat.org/fr/la_loi.html) too!

Thanks for posting this. It's amazing how 5 years ago, the word 'libertarian' wasn't even heard of by the mainstream, then 3 years ago the media blacked Ron Paul out, and now he's on the cover of the largest paper in France.

Rand looks like he stole a cookie from the cookie jar.

Ahh, I recall there was a reporter from France at one of Rand's debates... I wonder if the article is related to him. Yes, this is why our continued success is important for liberty around the world! :)
