Now that I'm here though, what the hell would the practical purpose of these things be? I understand the scary impulse, but near as I can tell all this amounts to is a nothing more than an immobile cop car on stilts. What would "they" (cue spooky music) have to gain from it? They are clearly marked police, but I'd like to see something other than YouTube videos about them. The only thing I can think of is they might have more deterrent value than just a camera, but surely not more than a regular ol' blue-light-mobile? And it's not like they'd be particularly effective tools of oppression, either, aside from the creepy optics of it.
