Public Intelligence, an international consortium of independent researchers, reports that a fusion center in Florida snooped on Ron Paul supporters and other political groups.

“Several restricted documents produced by the Central Florida Intelligence Exchange (CFIX) and obtained by Public Intelligence indicate that a variety of protests and political events are monitored by the regional fusion center for potential threats and violent activity,” the site reports.

“These events span the political spectrum from a summit hosted by Ron Paul’s Campaign for Liberty to anti-war protests conducted by Code Pink and Veterans for Peace. While the documents make no mention of specific threats arising from the events, they do indicate that the fusion center monitors political action in a variety of forms and sometimes requests law enforcement officers to report on constitutionally-protected activities.”

The Central Florida Intelligence Exchange was established with the assistance of an $850,000 Department of Homeland Security grant.

Is there even any question anymore that we are now, officially, living in an authoritarian state?

Sorry,
I don't have a picture of my ass uploaded anywhere.

But DHS can kiss it anyway.

If you've gone through TSA lately, likely they already have the picture....

The website that released the documents is publicintelligence.net, which appears to be similar to Wikileaks. They even released blueprints of the NY Fed building:

I consider this a compliment, to actually be considered a "threat" feels kind of good.

Once again,
When we were working on the FPIAC Report, I had a wish to make it more broad and universal. But we focused it on Missouri.
I knew then that it was much more widespread.

MIAC was a Fusion Center report. I suspect it is nationwide.

Not exactly accurate. Florida Fusion Center warned that there would be a big C4L event that might mess up parking. You'd have to look really hard into it to even read "may be a big enough target to warrant protection." LOL @AJ I hate the Fusion centers as much as anybody, but this will just make someone look silly. Look, here is the link to the report itself:

I hate the Fusion Centers bad, but the AJ hyperbole here extremely unwarranted, and can only make matters worse. The leaked document has nothing to do with surveillance, it just briefly touches on parking issues.

Good point.

Looks like it's part of a "news briefs" section. It's labeled "sensitive but unclassified."

Text of the report:

2nd Annual Florida Liberty Summit
On 13-15 August 2010, the Campaign for
Liberty will be holding their second annual
Florida Liberty Summit at the Rosen Center
Hotel in Orlando, Florida. The Campaign for
Liberty is a political organization founded by
Congressman Ron Raul. The website for the
event states it is a way for “liberty minded activists…to
network, learn, and build as our grassroots Revolution to
reclaim our Republic and restore our Constitution”.
Analyst Notes:
During the 2009 Florida Liberty Summit the start of the program
had to be postponed for 30 minutes due to International Drive
being backed up with attendees attempting to park. Based on
the groups calculations, there was around 1500 people in
attendance. Although the attendance numbers on the group
sites promoting this year’s event are low, the continued support
of Ron Paul and his party may produce similar attendance
numbers and issues to that of the 2009 event.

On the bright side, at least it WAS considered important enough to be placed above the obituary of "Dondi the Elephant." :p

Just to add insult to injury, we paid them almost a million to get started...no telling how much we have paid them since then.

*facepalm*

Check the source, check the source, check the source, check the source...

Good catch Glen.

ETA - Well, hang on second here. While it mentioned that traffic was backed up, the larger point is that it was listed with "scary muslims" building mosques and Code Pink carrying out publicity stunts.

The idea being that, while maybe not posing a "danger" right now, all these folks need watching.

And that's the problem.

Maybe people will take me more seriously now when I talk about the Police State and the Surveilance State (outside of libertarian-ish circles).

Awww come on, that's not fair. Don't confuse Alex Jones with the facts :p

But seriously though, I just skimmed the entire document and I don't see any reason the CFL was mentioned. It doesn't make sense why they were in there. It didn't say anything about them being any sort of threat etc...
