I can't think of any other reason he has become so far right, anger can't be all of it

Nah, he did this when he lost to Bush in 2000 as well. It took him four years or so to settle down.

and then he ran in 2008, the soonest acceptable time. he can't be thinking of 2016 senate re-election.

No. McCain is the the mirror image of Liberman. Although Liberman has never been a party-line liberal, he has always been liberal on gays. Likewise, although McCain has never been a party-line conservative, he has always been consistently conservative on gays, as well as abortion.

Actually, McCain would help take away some of the Romney votes... Hmm...

Do you guys think Romney is actually going to get somewhere this time?
Seems to me that the reason everyone was voting for him in primaries is because he was the prettiest candidate. But that didn't stack up too well when people examined his abortion record. His fiscal policies couldn't have helped either. I think that drove people to McCain.
He's getting less pretty as time goes by, and this time I don't think quite so many people are going to be taken in by what is essentially a well managed coiffure with horrible policies. The unemployed in particular might be looking for something better.
