Not long ago the Canadian government forcibly lowered the price of generic drugs (http://www.thepharmaletter.com/file/95688/canada-ontario-government-plan-to-lower-generic-drug-prices.html) to "help" those who could not afford them.

Guess what happened (http://www.cbc.ca/canada/new-brunswick/story/2010/12/18/nb-drug-shortage-worries-pharmacists.html)... I love how they deflect blame from the controls to everything other than the price control...lol.

Now I suppose the government needs to nationalize the pharmaceutical Industries to fix what they caused. Intervention leads to further intervention.

Canada imports mostly US drugs and negotiates the price. You get them for a lot less than we do in this country. You should look more at a practice called "just in time production" where drugs are produced on a timeline convenient to the company to eliminate warehousing costs. You might also look at depletion due to the several recent disasters and re-filling military stockpiles.

You should really go to India and countries like that, though I'm sure Big Pharma in the US has made Canada enter into agreements so they can't legally do that.

LOL!!! Within the context that this is a Canadian news channel, read this poster's comment:

Economics 101. WHy are there so many socialists on this web site? Don't people take economics in school? WHy are people so histile to their friends and neighbours who work at these companies?

The rest of the comments can be summed up into: more regulation since the generic manufacturers around the world are coordinating to scam *just* Canadians.

Off topic somewhat, but with Harper selling us out, there isn't exactly an incentive to swing to the right. I lost sleep last night over his latest backroom deal attempt:

NEW REPORT: Public water for sale: How Canada will privatize our public water systems

http://www.canadians.org/trade/issues/EU/index.html

I'm already on private water, but I don't want some corporation in Germany possibly controlling my supply of drinking water, thank you.

Yeah, you're absolutely right. We're no better than the States when it comes to cronyism. Except people here are more prone to associate corporatism with capitalism. Future's not looking too rosy.

We need a Ron Paul. All we have are crooked lefties on one side and Stephen Harper and his fascists on the other.

I actually kind of want to nationalize the drug companies, just to say "I tolja so" when we plummet in the international health rankings.

Hey, if I was 30 years older and we were both single, I'd marry RP and get him dual citizenship.

I love the passion of this American about Canadian Bill C-36 - another frightening possibility:

The socialists who comment on CBC's news articles are hilarious. They pretty much hate all conservatives, regardless if you are a neocon or a strict fiscal conservative. These are the same people who cry about corporatism but at the same time, want the Prime Minister to block BHP's bid for Potash, which he eventually did unfortunately.

Same with cell phone providers. They hate how much we pay for crappy cell phone service but whine whenever there's ever a mention of relaxing foreign investment rules because they don't want our cell phone providers (which they hate so much) to be taken over by foreign companies, especially ones from the U.S. (yeah...like that matters?)

very partisan people
