SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- A South Carolina retiree is doing his part to help California close its massive budget deficit. More than four decades after Dennis Ferguson received unemployment benefits from the state, he wrote a $10,000 check to the treasury to pay back the money, plus interest.

Ah, now if only all contributions to the government were voluntary, like this one.

It would have been smarter to spend the money on his friends and family or give the money to charity, instead of giving it to the government so they can piss it away.

California can stretch that 10 k and buy 50 after school meals one day for kids in LA : )
