Gravel considering Obama primary challenge, calls for new 9/11 investigation

MG: Individuals in and out of government may certainly have participated with the obviously known perpetrators of this dastardly act. Suspicions abound over the analysis presented by government. Obviously an act that has triggered three wars, Afghan, Iraqi and the continuing War on Terror, should be extensively investigated which was not done and which the government avoids addressing.

Didn't. Gravel leave the democrat party and go to the libarterian party at one point???

He ran for the nomination, I believe, in 2008. with LP I mean. He wanted the LP to merge with the green party for the election, and didn't consider universal healthcare to be unlibertarian, apparently.

i've voted for Ralph Nader since 2000 (supported RP in 2007 until he was defeated in the Rep. primary); however, as a dem. i would certainly support Gravel in the primary if he intends on running.

I am a fan of Gravel, and support his right to do this. But selfishly I'd like as few "good" candidates as possible out there so they don't split the vote.

As far as Democrats go, Gravel is definitely A-OK in my book. I hope he does run again, because he doesn't pull any punches with the sleazebags he often has to share the debate stage with. Even the moderators' gotchas are tepid in comparison.

I like Gravel too...He recently came out as a 9/11 truther.

Gravel tore Hillary a new asshole in the debates over Iran. 2nd favorite candidate last election because of his brutal assaults on the pro war democrats. Nobody is better at calling out the dems on their hypocrisy, Kucinich is a joke compared to him.

I'll always remember this video. YouTube - Mike Gravel - Rock - (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rZdAB4V_j8)

why are 9/11 truth deniers so insecure? Isnt it better to face the truth about 9/11 and to handle it accordingly?

Denial only feeds the danger even more.

Yeah, there were several real candidates (only ours on the GOP side, though) and it did split the vote.

But Obama PRETENDED to be real 'enough', and that was the real problem because people 'thought he could win'.

the problem is Gravel, and Kucinich will be considered protest candidates.

he probably wouldn't draw many votes, but props to him. what we need is a hillary clinton challenge. someone to divide the dem base.

no no no no no not a hillary clinton challenge. This would solidify the democratic base unfortunately unless Ron Paul can deliver a few more headline stories in huff. post. i see her as our worst threat, and if she goes against obama in 2012, we're in real trouble. The only hope is that the wikileaks revelations about her ordering the spying and DNA collections from UN members will serve to defeat her quickly. She recently said following those revelations that she would not seek public office after her current term. We can only hope this is true.

the way to divide the democratic base is for Ron Paul to run on the same ticket with a leftwinger like Gravel or Kucinich.

He ran in the Dem primary in 2008 and got ZERO delegates and significantly less than 1% of the votes.

Then he switched to the Libertarian Party and also lost.

Coming out as a "truther" won't help. While being a "truther" is not that uncommon on these boards, most Americans, regardless of party, think "truthers" are nut jobs.

I think it's a safe bet that Obama isn't shaking in his boots.

You want to make Obama nervous? Get Ron Paul nominated.

Gravel is a side show, at best.

Maybe if Mike jumped into the Lime light with his Pentagon Papers... tons of publicity for free.

Checkout the story how Gravel got involved with the very classified Top Secret compartmental Pentagon Papers.

Nice story.

I don't really like this, those potential Gravel voters could be potential Paul voters if we can get them to change their registration. The anti war left needs to realize that Ron Paul is the ONLY true anti war candidate although for different reasons than those on the left. We really need those guys to change their party and support the only real choice for freedom!

Wrong. If Hillary Clinton ran she would draw close to 45%-50% of the primary votes and potentially win. The Democrats would be completely divided over Hillary and Obama. Many in the party currently are disappointed with Obama, including the independents that voted for him in 2008, but were still a little leery.

Hillary running would create a strong and defined cleavage up the middle of the Democratic Party. A real challenge to an incumbent president is very serious and very dangerous to the incumbents chances. The three incumbents in modern history that have lost reelection also faced a tough primary challenger. Those three are Ronald Reagan of Gerald Ford in 1976, Ted Kennedy of Jimmy Carter in 1980, and Pat Buchanan of GWB I in 1992.
