"increasingly difficult to find students who condemned the violence" ... "more and more they're seeing it as a means to an end"

This along with Wikileaks is getting a lot of people worldwide to take action. I don't agree with what they are protesting - tuition subsidies is what they want is my take on it..

Just pointing to the fact that British students are increasingly accepting the idea that violence is a way to enable getting their "share" - not a good sign for a civil society - either there or anywhere else.

Police should just pull out the tear gas and bean bag rounds. If that doesn't persuade them, then use the sound thingies. Why is it our government pulls that crap out over PEACEFUL protests, yet the Brits are barely lifting their fingers to stop these violent spoiled brats?

I'm sorry, but breaking store windows, vandalism of private and public property because you can't get any more free handouts is absurd. Whatever happened to earning things the hard way via the sweat of ones own brow? I guess a little hard work is too much to ask these days huh?

It's funny to me, some of the most successful people I know had to pay for their own education. Great Britain I feel sorry for you. You've got a bunch of sheep who want their own socialistic destruction.

A voice of reason. You should have been on here yesterday. There are seriously people who were defending the actions of these thugs.

Because they are rioting for communism, which is what the government wants. They bring out that other stuff for the "Constitutional rights" crowd.

I wonder if some people on this site don't actually care about freedom so much as just want a fight against government and physical confrontation will do?

I hope not.

There is a difference between fighting for liberty and the rule of law vs. liberty and the rules only I agree to follow when they suit me.

Here's another way of looking at it:

We all know that the UK and Europe have entirely different systems than we do (or at least we used to). They are socialists and communists and they see that as perfectly normal. Mind you, I am not condoning nor advocating that, at all. I'm a strict Constitutionalist. The thing is, this is their system, no matter what we may think of it. I'm gonna guess they pay high taxes, have experienced looting by the banksters, too, and see the same kind of waste in govt that we do. Since they have that socialist system, they want it to be for their benefit, not for bank bailouts, wars, and the other stuff we don't like either. Of course, I think their system is not a sustainable one, but that's beside the point. Neither is ours and for the same reasons.

Now, when things turn ugly that's because govt has become the master instead of the servant. It doesn't matter what country it's in - it's wrong. These people want lower tuition as part of their socialist package. Aren't the people supposed to be the ones calling the shots? When govt doesn't listen or ignores the people, we've all seen how sending emails and trying to vote them out works - it doesn't. Because govt is not responsive to the people, I see it as inevitable that violence, or tyranny, will be the result. It's very dangerous and could lead to worse conditions but it's all fairly predictable.

they're well within their right to protest (even if I disagree with the cause), but the mere second they start inciting and causing real violence and destruction of property, it needs to be stopped ASAP.

Have to raise taxes to give tuition and healthcare and they cannot do that because they are currently too high. In the end it does not matter if they want tuition . Shit always fails because it is too expensive . You can never be responsive enough to the people in that model , because it costs too much. Those kids better wise up and find a job.
