It's so OBVIOUS that the government is behind wikileaks. You know how I know? Because the government shut down their paypal payments. ANd their visa payments, And their mastercard payments. And their swiss bank account.

Josh, who do you really believe would have had access to all these cables? This stuff must be restricted in some way so not just any low level person can get them? If it is legit, it seems it would have to be from multiple people or somebody really high up. OR the result of some spyware software sniffing and retrieving them....

I think the point here, is that, yes it's possible wikileaks is CIA-controlled, but it's too conspiracy theory-ish, even for us, to presume they are. It's a simple application of Occam's Razor.

Here's my thought on the "conspiracy" angle. Let's assume it was staged. And? Does that mean we ignore good information that's come out like the Afghan rape story? Does that mean that we sit back and let the government set the precedent of pressuring financial services companies to cut off people the government deems are "dangerous" but who haven't in fact broken any laws? Take a play from the Alex Jones and even the Glenn Beck playbook. Both have raised questions about Assange (albeit for vastly different reasons) and both have come to Assange's defense against the bogus charges.

Manning might have leaked stuff that is completely unrelated to this (We don't know, do we?), but they would love to paint an "angry homosexual" as the poster boy for wikileaks sources.

I was banned and brought back already. I swear I'm not a spammer, I'm just new, and thoroughly ticked about what, IMO, is a decently well veiled attempt at a disinfo campaign.

JA turned himself in and was denied bail. Then his funds were shut off (thereby inducing attacks via the web), Palin and Slimeball calling for his assasination, etc.... He just was elevated to martyr status! That is the nature of a psychological operation. If it was transparent they wouldn't fool anyone.

The purpose? Well regulated internet, to rattle sabers at enemy states, to gloss over Israel's involvement in ME diplomacy...

Here's one for you: Maybe the CIA was the leaker! Maybe Julian doesn't know that, and maybe they leaked it to him so that they could go after him AND the internet.

But that doesn't mean the site or Julian is CIA.

Just like those guys who had the FBI giving them bombs, but they didn't know it was the FBI.

Just one of MANY possibilities - and anybody that is SO SURE of what is going on is fooling themselves. We - Just - Do - Not - Know! Ok guys? :)

CIA ops aren't always completely controlled. Assange may be an 'asset' in some sense, but I don't think he is controlled by them, I think he is genuine.

I think the CIA has been responsible for the release of SOME of the information, in fact it was made apparent recently that he made a deal with Israel to look through some of it before being released. They probably took out a lot of the juicy stuff, left in a few tidibits and added some anti-Iran propaganda. So intelligence agencies have been meddling with it, and they are going to try to use it to try and clamp down on the internet. That doesn't mean we shouldn't fight for free speech and use this as an educational opportunity.
