Baltimore (CNN) -- A Baltimore man has been ordered to remain in custody after federal agents Wednesday arrested him for allegedly plotting to bomb a military recruiting station in Maryland.

Antonio Martinez, a Muslim convert who goes by the name Muhammad Hussain, was upset by U.S. forces killing "Muslim brothers and sisters" overseas. He was arrested Wednesday morning after attempting to detonate an inert device supplied to him by an undercover FBI agent, according to court papers.

Martinez, a 21-year-old American citizen, made a brief initial appearance before a federal magistrate in Baltimore on Wednesday afternoon, during which he requested a public defender. No plea was entered during the proceeding.

"It's very, very early in the process, and it's important not to jump to any conclusions," his court-appointed attorney, Joseph Balter, said as he left the courtroom.

Martinez is charged with attempting to kill federal officers and attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction against U.S. property. He told a federal informant that he wanted to attack the Armed Forces Career Center in the Baltimore suburb of Catonsville, an FBI agent stated in court papers.

The arrest comes after a string of unsuccessful terror attempts, such as last year's alleged Christmas Day bombing attempt, the botched Times Square car bombing, and the alleged Portland, Oregon, plan to attack a Christmas tree-lighting -- another case in which federal agents supplied the suspect with a fake bomb and waited for him to attempt to detonate it.

The FBI knew Mohamed Osman Mohamud, 19, would attempt a terrorist attack in Portland, Oregon, and that the attempt would fail, because FBI agents had been assisting Mohamud every step of the way, even loading the fake bomb on the van for him. By Michael Tennant

Oh yeah, the guys that gave him a bomb, and invented the "plot".

Right but you can't just say it's false without any specific evidence. He could have actually wanted to do it, and that's what it seems like. He wouldn't have attempted anything if he didn't want to do it. It was more of a sting operation.

This has fbi entrapment written all over it:

in connection with a scheme to attack an armed forces recruiting station in Catonsville, Maryland, with what he believed to be a vehicle bomb.

aka, the undercover FBI agent gave him the idea and the fake bomb to go ahead with it. I feel we are going to see more of these phony investigations that purportedly saved us from devastating attacks. How else will tptb continue naked body scanners and increased infringements on our personal liberties?

What is the chance that this guy would have attempted this without FBI "encouragement"? Its like the Judge said, they pick easy marks to justify their existence. At most, this guy would have attempted lighting his pants on fire. And hey, the christmas bomber couldn't even do that without help.

Yes.. I Can.
It is not hard to call out a lie when you have been lied to repeatedly.
These people have NO credibility. NONE.

ask yourself (if you chose honesty) how come uneducated goat herders in third world countries can actually build bombs that go boom?

Or the IRA. who did for many years?

But these Professionally Trained "Terrorists"(New York) can't even light up a gas can.

Hmmm,,?

BTW, I was capable of building devices at 14 yrs old.
Why are the FBIs "terrorists" so inept?

I think people are missing the pattern here quibbling over whether or not this is "entrapment".

Here's the deal. The people who hate us for our "freedoms" can only take them away if the do it slowly over time. If everybody realized back in 2001 - 2002 the full implications of using a "security state" to stop "terrorism", nobody would have agreed to it because the price would have been too high. So things have to be brought in by "phases". Even today with the TSA molestation and porn scans, some idiots are using the "You don't have to fly" logic, while ignoring the fact that these same procedures are being rolled out to bus and train stations already.

So what does this have to do with the pattern of terrorism? Simply. The "home grown" terrorists have to be "just scary enough" but "not to scary". Notice that it's always the foreign born terrorists that try to get on the planes. (Shoe bomber. Peroxide bomber. Underwear bomber.) Notice that the "home grown" terrorists never attempt anything that sophisticated. All of their attempts are much more simple. (Propane cans in a car in NYC for instance).

What is it that the powers that be don't want you to pick up on? This. If Al CIAda Al Qaeda really wanted to strike "soft targets" in the U.S. as they have in Iraq and elsewhere, there would be no stopping them. Not at least without a complete and total police state. So we're fed these cock and bull punks who couldn't blow up a wet paper bag without FBI help. It's enough to keep people "afraid" without making people wonder why "If we need porn scans and pat downs at airport, why not everywhere". At least not yet.

Exactly!
