Well, I stopped flying to protest the TSA, and it's just too far to drive across the whole United States to reach Washington DC. But if there's an important Ron Paul event in California, Nevada, New Mexico, Colorado, etc, I'll definitely be there.

I do not fly either unless it is extremely important. I suggest you consider going through the opt-out line and bypass the scanners. If enough people opt-out and demand a pat-down, sooner or later they will stop using the machines.

If you're going to CPAC, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair.

Wait, nevermind. That's San Francisco. Why do I always get the two mixed up?

http://washingtonindependent.com/77216/ron-paul-wins-2010-cpac-presidential-straw-poll

Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) scored a victory in the annual CPAC straw poll (http://bit.ly/cZTEAi), besting nine other Republicans in a vote taken by around 2,395 attendees — around 25 percent of the people at this conservative conference. Paul won 31 percent of the vote; Mitt Romney came in second with 22 percent, his first silver medal after winning the last three straw polls. Sarah Palin came in third with 7 percent, and Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R-Minn.) came in fourth with 6 percent.

in a vote taken by around 2,395 attendees — around 25 percent of the people at this conservative conference. Paul won 31 percent of the vote

Math:
2,395 voting attendees = 25% of total attendees = 9,580 total attendees in 2010.
31% of the voting attendees voted for Paul = 743 votes for Ron Paul in 2010.

We need to get at least 1,000 votes for him this year due to the fact that (1) More attendees will vote this year since Ron won last year, and (2) More people will attend this year, since it's the February before an election year.

Elwar,

About 2,400 people voted. And the numbers increase every year.

We believe we need 1,200 or more ron paul people to come to cpac to support the cause.

This also involves those who are going educating themselves on where to be, when to be there, and what the requirements are, please :)

Thank you for that. Those of us that have obligations or obstacles preventing us from personally attending, but will help sponsor people who otherwise could not go, don't really care about Ron Paul 2012 at all. You have me pegged.

CPAC 2011 will be pivotal for Dr. Pauls possible campaign. It concerns me that there is not more of a buzz about this. We need to make sure to get every possible body we can there.

Hi folks. I just wanted to let everyone know about an often under-looked route to take for lodging. Along the old highway in Fairfax, Virginia there are numerous run down motor lodges and motels. Yes they are pretty small and cramped but you can get a room with 2 beds for 40 dollars a night at some of them. That's what my College Conservatives club did for cpac last year and it worked out great.

Specifically how much? unknown - do not know whether I can share a floor with someone, whether I'll be able to share a ride with someone, or whether I'll have to drive myself and get a room myself. Those things will have an enormous impact on cost.

As to donating, CPAC can be justified as a campaign expense, so the regular old campaign donation link http://glenbradley.net/node/17 will work just fine -- and because it's non-profit the Paypal fees are reduced by something like half.

Isn't the pay somewhere around $21,000 if memory serves? I know Federal is roughly $163,000, so there is definitely dedication required to be a state-level legislator.

Roughly thereabouts, but there is also per deim, so the long session ends up around $40k on a W2 and the short session ends up around $20k on a W2. The salary itself is pretty pathetic, but the salary does not account for per deim.

Here is a good chart for "total disbursements"

http://www.carolinatransparency.com/disbursements/?

Notice that my actual "salary" will only be $13,951 while I will have an expense account allowing me to spend $6,708 in job related expenses. I will get a per deim of somewhere around $22k, and due to where I live I'll get travel expenses almost certainly under $1,000

The chart linked above is for the "long session." Note that the short session (2012) will dramatically reduce disbursements back to right around $20k total.

So I'm going to end up getting roughly $40k for 2011 and $20k for 2012.

Not too bad, I've done a lot better in my life, but I could certainly do worse. As long as I save more than I spend, I should be just fine through 2012. After living with literally almost nothing since middle 2007, the legislator pay is going to make me feel rich lol

It's all about what Daniel Hannan was talking about a year or so ago. Make sure to take the cheapest transportation possible and you can consider some of that extra pay. That is nothing compared to Chicago, where pretty much every makes six figures, but hey, everyone knows what goes on here.

That makes me think, have you thought about a position on legislative compensation? I'm willing to bet that's going to come up in one form or another.

I'll definately be there, plus 2! Gunny, I may be able to swing you a ride/roomshare with a friend of a friend of mine that is coming, lmk and I will talk to him, he lives in Greenville, NC... as far as hotels.. since CPAC is right on the Redline, it opens up alot of options for cheaper hotels.. depending how long you want to be on the metro.. 30 mins on the redline will get you to Shady Grove.. which is in Fredrick, MD and I am certain you can get $40-$50 hotel rooms... I'm staying at one of the lesser expensive hotels myself.. check with Hotels.com DC area.. pan out on the map and check prices :-) It will be well worth it!

Besides.. Do Not forget that Ron AND Rand will be speaking at the Liberty Forum Thursday night!!! And the After parties are always rockin' :)
