Anyone know a good alternative to Paypal? I'd like to switch to another service due to Paypal's closing Wikileaks' account. My main need is to send some money to my employees in the Philippines and Malaysia.

While we're at it, I need the ability for clients to pay me online, but I can probably use Google Checkout for that. One key feature that I'm not sure if Google Checkout can handle is the ability for customers to enter the amount they want to pay.

Thanks

I can't speak to any of the others. I've used Amazon payments...

Make sure to look at the discussion, too.

Amazon is being boycotted for kicking Wikileaks off their hosting =)

I have used them in the past, but don't think they do international transactions. I need access to Southeast Asia.

www.moneybookers.com - they've been around for years, and they're as widely accepted as Paypal in many other countries.

Is there a such thing as E-gold?

Used to be.

It was an ecurrency based on units of gold with transfer fees of less than 1% up to 70 cents per transaction. (Compare that to Paypal's .39+2.9% up to infinity.) Your account balance in gold weight would never change although its value in dollars might.

Anyway, they promised ultimate anonymity with information stored on "offshore" servers.

When the service grew larger and more popular mostly with the help of people involved in drug trafficking, money laundering, credit card fraud, and child pornography, it was shut down and later discovered that the servers were in Tampa, not offshore. There were plenty of legitimate people using it, mostly due to the fact you could send $25,000 and generate only $.70 in fees, but the few bad apples ruined it for everyone else.

Honestly, you'd be taking a serious loss for abandoning Paypal because they caved to threats by people in power.

Paypal has a huge business and makes e-commerce viable for many, many people. If the government began imposing unfair regulations/fees on Paypal because they wanted to give the government the finger, the consequences would be hundreds of thousands in the US out of work.

However, for accepting payments, there are plenty of online credit/debit processors, like Visa's authorize.net, which coincidentally appears to be having server troubles.

Absolutely. People are focusing on the wrong targets. The proper target for a boycott would be companies Lieberman and other proponents of the unconstitutional SHIELD Act have a stake in.

Darn, this looks good except that they don't have Localized banking in the Philippines - only wire transfers.

Paypal has a virtual monopoly on e-payments thanks to that mindset.....I went through this same frustration during the primary season. People flat out refuse to donate unless they can use Paypal.

It was a joke...kind of.

Anonymous is an internet superconscious rather than a specific group or organization.

Hackers take down website of bank that froze Assange’s legal defense funds (http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2010/12/hackers-website-bank-froze-wikileaks-funds/)

A group of Internet activists calling themselves Operation Payback have taken credit for shutting down the website of a bank that earlier Monday froze funds belonging to WikiLeaks.
Announcing its successful hack on a Twitter account, the group declared, “We will fire at anyone that tries to censor WikiLeaks.”

Operation Payback also promised a hack attack on PayPal, the online payment service that last week cut off WikiLeaks, denying the group a major tool for collecting donations from supporters.

How can you boycott companies that live off the State? Of course, you can -- it's called revolution and I don't think many people are ready for that sort of thing.

ThePirateBay has a way to do this.

But I don't blame PayPal, because I don't think they had a choice in the matter. I think the Federal Government strong armed them into it.
