House Democrats brought up a bill yesterday to extend all of the Bush tax cuts for the middle-class while letting the higher-end tax cuts expire. In effect, it would be a huge tax hike on Jan. 1 for a lot of people, including small business owners. The bill passed 234-188, with 3 Republicans voting YES with the Democrats - Walter Jones (NC-03), Ron Paul (TX-14), and John Duncan (TN-02).

Fortunately, since the bill can't pass the Senate, Democrats will be forced to go back to the negotiation table with Republicans and ultimately relent on extending all of the tax cuts.

The second paragraph ended up being right, as the "middle class tax cuts" died in the Senate today:

This whole issue is bunk. Re-arranging deck chairs on the Titanic. Who cares about a few little tweaks here and there to a monstrous and corrupt tax code? Any Bill that gets passed will probably do nothing more than enrich a few big players anyway. Hedge Fund managers probably make out the best if the "Bush tax cuts" are completely renewed.

Maybe Ron Paul takes many things into account, and doesn't vote based exclusively on dogma.

only a true partisan would argue that voting for a tax cut == a tax hike. im glad some are showing their true colors though.

Those three Republicans are easily the best in the House. Chaffetz is pretty close to them, but considering he will likely try to primary Hatch I can understand why he couldn't vote for this.

The Democrats just received an early Christmas present from the R's that voted against this bill.

Coming to elections in 2012.... insert GOP name here ______ voted to raise taxes on 98% of Americans. No matter what CFG says now, that's the narrative next election season!

BS. Ron wants the income tax ABOLISHED and has no choice but to vote for less than he wants, and always votes to cut taxes. The House had no leverage on this point, only the Senate does.

RON has credibility from a consistent record. THEY are trying to gain credibility with games and posturing.

If no new bill is passed won't all the cuts expire? Doesn't this mean that he voted to lower taxes? Albeit less then bush did. At this point however its not about what we want (no income tax) but about what is politically feasable with a democrat in the white house. As others have said they are just playing games.

While the republican leadership plays political games with the people's tax levels, Dr. Paul is one of 3 actively working to reduce taxes.
