Why they should have opposed it:
http://www.freedomworks.org/publications/key-vote-no%E2%80%9D-s-510-food-safety-modernization-act

If passed, federal bureaucrats who know little about agriculture will tell farmers how to “appropriately” grow their crops. Food producers will likely spend hundreds of millions of dollars to comply with these frivolous new rules that dictate what kind of soil or how much water a farmer should use. This cost will be passed on to consumers in the form of higher food prices. To carry out these new rules, the federal government is required to hire, according to Section 401, thousands upon thousands of new bureaucrats funded by “such sums as may be necessary”.

Big agriculture companies that are lobbying for this bill will easily be able to adjust to the new rules. It will be more difficult for small farmers to comply with the new costly regulations. Ultimately, this dangerous bill could weed out competition by destroying independent family farmers that provide healthy choices.

My family has a small dairy farm. The state just forced us to put in a manure pit at the tune of $150,000 and it's been a disaster. It doesn't work and will cost my dad thousands more each year because it collects all surrounding rainwater.

We never ever have had an environmental issue with our farm - but we're too stupid to be trusted according to the state.

Guilty until proven innocent.

My dad's already forced to compete with big farms getting huge subsidies to build methane digesters around us. They get hundreds of thousands of dollars in stimulus to put in digesters which save them money, thus reducing the cost of their operations and lowering the cost of production. My dad would never have access to that money - he wouldn't take it anyways. Nonetheless, it's artificially cutting into his margins.

**There's a reason why all of the small farms in our area are rapidly disappearing and the corporate factories are expanding like crazy. Not that I have a problem necessarily with corporate farms, but the whole industry is rigged in their favor.

Who knows what will result of this bill, but it's just another one of our countless headaches trying to jump through all the hoops.

As an Indiana resident, I ask myself that all the time. He's so firmly entrenched in his office that the Democrats didn't even run an opponent against him the last time he was on the ballot (in '06 I believe).

Lugar is basically a fat, bloated little deer tick deeply embedded in the ass crack of the body politic.

I have listed the names of the Senators, the Party and State, and the amount of Special Interest Bribes (I mean campaign contributions) that they received:

Yes. Don't give up just yet. We have one last push. Here's the info I received:

THE US SENTATE JUST VOTED TO END FOOD FREEDOM IN THE UNITED STATES.
THE ACTION NOW MOVES TO THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

TELL THE HOUSE NOT TO ACCEPT THE SENATE BILL S.510. The NY times just reported the "lame-duck leadership" in the House will attempt quick passage!

"Despite unusual bipartisan support on Capitol Hill and a strong push from the Obama administration, though, the bill could still die, because there might not be enough time left in the session for the usual haggling between the Senate and House of Representatives, which passed its own version of the bill last year. Top House Democrats have said that they would consider simply passing the Senate version to speed approval."

At some point, bullets will fly, and this issue is just as good as any.

Bullets will not fly. Just as the same way that bullets never flew over TSA's pornoscanners, the PATRIOT Act, Obama reinstating the PATRIOT Act, TARP, the auto-bailouts, the lies about the end of the Iraq War, the ongoing war in Afghanistan that Obama plans on having until 2014...may I go on?

This is a nation of sheep and we're fucked until the system collapses and God knows what will replace it. The government is the alpha and omega. Who cares about intellectual conversation when all people care about is being safe. Fuck Wikileaks publishes the truth in the empire of lies, and people are calling for Assange's death. If it was revealed - as the 9/11 truthers believe - that the government was directly involved in 9/11 with document after document supporting this claim...you know what would happen? The person/organization responsible for recovering that data would be put to death for treason and the overwhemingly large majority of the country would support it!

Truth smacks people right in the face in this country, but we must obey the almighty government!

Now the only question is...why the fuck haven't I packed for New Hampshire to live with those crazy free-staters?

It may currently be a cold war, but it can go hot at any time. When it does it will be the result of some alphabet tribe incurring on someone who won't take it anymore. The mob will not march on Washington, the mob will just defend itself at some point, and we are getting closer to that point.

If passed, federal bureaucrats who know little about agriculture will tell farmers how to “appropriately” grow their crops. Food producers will likely spend hundreds of millions of dollars to comply with these frivolous new rules that dictate what kind of soil or how much water a farmer should use.

Water bad. Brawndo good! It's got what plants crave! It's got electrolytes!
