Since it's Sunday morning and a lot of people have hymns on their mind, and since "V for Vendetta" has been under so much discussion on the forums, I thought I'd post the words for the "1812 Overture," which is so prominent in "V." For the life of me, I'll never understand why it was used in that movie, or why it's played by the Boston Pops on the Fourth of July every year.

There are actually two hymns. A non-Tchaikovsky arrangement of the first one is here:

God Save the Tsar!
Powerful and Sovereign,
Reign for Glory, for Glory to us.
Reign for Terror to the Enemies,
Orthodox Tsar,
God save the Tsar!

0 Lord, save thy people and bless thine inheritance:
Grant victory to the Orthodox kings over the barbarians,
And by thy Cross protect thine own Estate.

I think that is easy. The Tsar's of Russia were resisting the Banksters to take over the money control of Russia that the last Zsar and his family were killed and a jewish financed war on Russia which killed 50 million Christan heretics as deemed by the Jesuit Vatican. IMO of a rambling conspiracist:)

I don't know about the hymns.

But I did notice only today that the background music when V is speaking on the emergency channel is also the 1812 Overture, or based on it.

I also saw a biopic that claimed that Pyotor Tchai. hated this composition.

The booming part is used during the explosions, too. This is why I'm bringing up the hymns. It makes no sense that an anti-totalitarian movement would be celebrated using hymns praising an emperor.

True, but I guess it's all about the point of view of the 'good guy'. This is a composition celebrating the thwarting of Napolean, isn't it?

My guess as to why they used this piece is that its so well known

Yup. I think the Wachowski brothers thought that the parts quoting the Marseillaise were in favor of "the people," whereas in reality, it represents the French getting slaughtered by the Russians. And I think the Boston Pops uses it because they get a chance to make booming sounds on fireworks day. Still, the use of patriotic imperialist hymns in such a context sounds silly to me.

I just finished listening to it in MIDI (I'm using a .mid so as not to risk slowing my rather old computer.
