I've been working on slogans for the growing Conservative Libertarian movement in the UK. You Americans might be surprised to know that many British really don't understand what Libertarianism is - and certainly not what Conservative Libertarianism might be.

I've been trying to keep it simple but also to capture what we believe in a way people can get behind. I've come up with:

"Freedom with a conscience."

What do you think?

Boiling down RP's message in a slogan is quite troublesome. The slogans that really hit the nail on the head usually require some requisite background information to fully appreciate. Considering we are up against an educational disconnect, the slogan needs to touch people that have a limited exposure to politics/history. At the same time, especially after Obama's "HOPE/CHANGE", a generalized brief slogan runs the risk of a negative association and/or being perceived as meaningless.

Ron's inability to be corrupted, his integrity, character, and the congruency of his philosophy with his voting record need to be at the forefront of the message to the casual observer. People were salivating for a real change of direction in this country in 2008. This sentiment has only grown as conditions worsen and Obama continues to expose himself. In 2012, people will be more weary of false prophets and empty promises. This will lend further credence to Ron. We must instill the perception of Ron as a statesman possessing the intellect, foresight, and courage to restore the country.

At the same time, especially after Obama's "HOPE/CHANGE", a generalized brief slogan runs the risk of a negative association and/or being perceived as meaningless.

For me the word that boils RP's position down to a word is either "Liberty" or "Constitution". "Liberty" is my favorite since no voter can have a negative opinion of it, and as time goes by, its meaning is all that more important. My shot:

http://i55.tinypic.com/2qa3f69.jpg

The only problem I have with it is that it reminds me of the Libertarian Party and the news people like to keep bringing it up any chance they get. Here are a few more:

For some reason, according to the pollsters, liberty polls badly in the initial reaction people have to it. And yes, it does invite the newspeople to go into all of his associations with the Libertarian Party. Freedom polls better than liberty, but not a great deal.. There is no use fighting the tape. If John Q. doewn't like them, he doesn't. I don't have a suggestion but wish I did."Peace and Prosperity" ought to work but I have no idea if they would.

I don't think that "Liberty" or "Freedom" are the way to go. Most Americans like to brag that they are free already and that the military protects our liberty. They want to reject the reality that these are soon to be forgotten assets. For that reason, I like "Dont get fooled again" or " No more lies" or something along those lines. That's my two cents worth.

I passionately hated the slogan of the last campaign. Anything with the words "Hope" or "Change" in it is an automatic Epic Failure. If Ron Paul does run one more time, his slogan should be "The Revolution Continues" or something about restoring the Republic and defending the Constitution.

I read through A LOT of slogans in this thread. I think most of them completely miss the mark. A campaign slogan for Ron Paul must meet all of the following criteria:

- Summarize his entire platform in a few words or less
- Be catchy and easily memorable
- Be poignant, not vague or ambiguous
- Do not use cliches commonly distrusted
- Do not appear fringe or alienate people from the cause
- Do not say something easily objectionable from the right or left
- Do not say something other candidates claim as well
- Capture what every American is thinking

With that said here are a few I really like and think will work:

The Revolution Continues
Freedom Is Popular
Freedom, Prosperity & Peace

Here are my runner-ups:

Restore the Republic
Defend the Constitution
Principle Over Politics
Life, Liberty & the Pursuit of Happiness
Conserve Liberty
Protecting Constitutional Rights
Liberty For America
Freedom Brings Us Together

Thoughts anyone?

They have been done to death for 200 years and have no meaning left anymore and are easily forgotten by someone seconds after reading them. Ron Paul is not your ordianary republican candidate, don't brand him with a rudy g slogan.

This!!! If RP is to become our next POTUS, he needs to appeal to mainstream America! I repeat....he needs to appeal to mainstream America!!! And "mainstream America" doesn't feel that they are not free. Perception is reality and that's the way it is. Right or wrong, most Americans do not feel as though their "freedoms" are being taken away from them, so a slogan speaking to "Liberty" or "Freedom" rings hollow and will carry no message to them.

Ron Paul 2012 "Restoring Sanity" I put this on the bail bondsman's (very active in our counties republican party) notebook the other night and he stopped in my office on his way out and said, "What about Rand?" Wow, just that he was aware of Rand was impressive. I also was at a tea party meeting where the mayor was speaking. Afterwards I was talking with a friend, who's a dentist, and the mayor came over to greet him and when he was inroduced to me my friend said, "He's a Libertarian, he just doesn't know it yet." Keep making noise and we are being heard.

It seems like most people are afraid to check out Ron Paul cause the media does not really bad mouth Ron Paul so much as they bash the supporters. I think it would be good to try combat that is much as possible. I remember during the last election driving listening to the radio and the talk show guy was really making it loud and clear that you don't want to be associated with the Ron Paul people. i liked ... its the end of the world anyway. lol
i do think there are some which have potential tho. such as...

freedom brings us together
restore hope
a new hope (star wars fans will like haha)
our last hope
principle over politics

As obama displayed in 2008, optimism is what wins elections, we cant win by smearing the left and especially cant win by smearing the right, even tho we may disagree with a lot of them. it is foolish to paint ourselves as radicals or rebels or anything too fringe. RPs policy and philosophy speak for themselves and dont need us hurting him by pretending to be anarchists or crazy radicals. for that reason we need to communicate his ideals while still playing the reserved and classy game of politics. if not he cant win. its that simple. we need to be resectfully critical of the establishment and calmly argumentative and come across as intelligent, following ron paul's great example.

as for slogans and the like, i think whats even more important is a unified graphic design style. especially one which is modern, simple, friendly, and memorable. i say this because i am very critical of the "ron paul revolution" graphics. black and red is not the color scheme to win elections and certainly is not open and inclusive. also the army block print font is very abrasive and serif fonts seem too formal or unappealing. we need simple, helvetica. this goes back to seeming less radical or rebellious. this site http://ronpauldesigns.blogspot.com/ has experimented with what i feel is a very good start for creating a simple, "professional", legitimate, modern graphic design style which will suit us well and appeal to the general public. he also has a fb page here http://www.facebook.com/ronpauldesigns?ref=ts

I passionately hated the slogan of the last campaign. Anything with the words "Hope" or "Change" in it is an automatic Epic Failure. If Ron Paul does run one more time, his slogan should be "The Revolution Continues" or something about restoring the Republic and defending the Constitution.

I read through A LOT of slogans in this thread. I think most of them completely miss the mark. A campaign slogan for Ron Paul must meet all of the following criteria:

- Summarize his entire platform in a few words or less
- Be catchy and easily memorable
- Be poignant, not vague or ambiguous
- Do not use cliches commonly distrusted
- Do not appear fringe or alienate people from the cause
- Do not say something easily objectionable from the right or left
- Do not say something other candidates claim as well
- Capture what every American is thinking

With that said here are a few I really like and think will work:

The Revolution Continues
Freedom Is Popular
Freedom, Prosperity & Peace

Here are my runner-ups:

Restore the Republic
Defend the Constitution
Principle Over Politics
Life, Liberty & the Pursuit of Happiness
Conserve Liberty
Protecting Constitutional Rights
Liberty For America
Freedom Brings Us Together

Thoughts anyone?

Agree with everything you just said. I'm a little underwhelmed at the amount of lame cliche slogans. Those are not fit for a serious campaign. Remember, last campaign there were two slogans- "Freedom, Prosperity, Peace" and "Hope for America- Be a Part of It". Both are great and I see no reason why they couldn't be used again.

Aside from those, my picks would be these:

"Peace for America"
"Freedom is Popular"
"Strong, Principled Leadership"
"The Constitution Can Save America"

I will say this though...As much as "I" like it, it's still not enough. Americans by and large have been indoctrinated into the mindset of "What are our leaders going to do for me/us?". We've become nothing more than a mindless mob shouting "Gimme, gimme, gimme". We talk a good story, but really, we like our entitlements and look to our "illustrious elected officials" to tell us what they're going to do for us...and here's the rub...It doesn't matter if it's a bunch of vague, nebulous, lies...WE WANT TO BELIEVE!

And that's why Obama's bullshit "Hope and Change" and "Yes We Can!" crap spoke to the imbeciles and had them fainting in the isles.

Whatever the slogan is going to be...it must inspire "The Mob"...or the good Dr has no chance of winning. Much to my chagrin...that's the cold, hard truth.

Restore America is good!

I really think "Restore American" will resonate with the public in general more than a slogan with the word Liberty or Freedom in it. Reason being that most American don't realize they are slaves to the state. They really think they are free. They know somethings wrong but haven't quite put all the pieces of the puzzle together yet and although we have come a long way in educating, chances are they may not connect all the dots before 2012. But I think many realize we have lost something important and would like it back especially in the economic sense. So "Restore American" would appeal to more than "Restore Liberty" or "Restore Freedom." Just mho.

The perfect slogan for an entitlement generation. Why? Because the conservatives are disgusted with people demanding their support, and the liberals are disgusted with demands on their privacy and the costs of war. It's new, and full of action. And there's truth in advertising there. This is what a vote for Ron Paul is, and has always been--a demand for liberty. And if there's anything better, it's this:

Demand Sanity.

Last time people asked for change and got told they don't get any after all. We have got to tell them how to demand positive change. And we all know that electing our man is just such a non-ignorable demand.

Demand change. Demand sanity. Demand LIBERTY!

Draw and upside down triangle in the circle \-/ putting Peace (top left) Prosperity (top right) Freedom (bottom). Right now I can't I balance those words out with triangulation because the top left and top right corners of the puzzle piece are in the way. Seems like it could be more balanced if Peace Prosperity Freedom were evenly distributed on the circle.

I originally flirted with Peace (smaller) Freedom (biggest) Prosperity (smaller) across the bottom but it looked funny with that puzzle piece and all of the dead space at the top.

I've got Photoshop but I'm not sure if I could help at all. I see what you mean about a triangle I think but I'm not good enough to trim things down a retain all of the shading.

Somebody that knows the Pin tool could remake the shape of the puzzle piece. I'm just spazing out trying.

What did you use to make it?

I found this video on the basics of the pen tool. People that master it swear by it. It's like everything else on a computer in the beginning, it just beats you up for a while.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9vUqFSH1lc

One of the advantages of paths over shapes is that it can create a very fine line that will still remain very smooth along the edge and not get jagged when it is enlarged or zoomed way up.

P.S. I'm looking at it now and thinking maybe you could try turning off the puzzle piece layer (or turn down the opacity) and getting all of the words lain out like you like. Then you could "free transform" it until it fit.
