Unfortunately this piece is an example of how government operates. You point out how they are being inconsistent and ignoring some things (knives, knitting needles), and the result is that they expand their prohibitions and power.

"But knives are dangerous too."
"Fixed. Knives banned. Searches expanded."

"But there's a bomb in underwear."
"Fixed. Naked scanners. Aggressive feel-up instituted. Fines and arrests increased. Bill of Rights decreased."

"But cell phones are more dangerous than a couple of drinks when driving."
"Fixed. Cell phones banned. Fines increased."

"I have a right to open carry."
"Fixed. Open carry banned. Fines increased. Bill of Rights decreased."

"But people can hide bombs in their body cavities."
