"Transportation economists: TSA peep-or-grope will cause more people to choose to drive and die on the highways."

As the nation readies for one of the busiest traveling holidays, Steven Horwitz, a professor of economics at St. Lawrence University, told The Hill that the probable spike in road travel, caused by adverse feelings towards the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) new screening procedures, could also lead to more car-related deaths.

“Driving is much more dangerous than flying, as you are far more likely to be killed in an automobile accident mile-for-mile than you are in an airplane,” said Horwitz. “The result will be that the new TSA procedures will kill more Americans on the highway.”

"
I'll be canceling my Christmas flight and driving instead. If my brains end up splattered all over I-5, please be sure to add my name to Janet Napolitano's Body Count.

a stretch

When dealing in large numbers it really is not a stretch. When you personally make make the fly/drive decision, it really doesn't come into play. If you have an extra million people on the road, that is when mortality rate comes into play.

Have not flown in over 10 years. Less likely to than ever.

What about the drive to the airport?

But look on the bright side, it will give us a second chance to bailout the airline industry...

What about the drive to the airport?

True that's dangerous as well.

That's why we have to get rid of SUV's to protect cars.

What about the drive to the airport?

A much shorter drive than the distance people who now aren't going to fly will have to travel.

TSA killing americans, americans have the choice to go through the screening or not. Sometimes the 'government is all bad' mentality is just as bad as the 'government is all good' mentality.

That's no excuse -- they're forcing their bureaucracy and abuse on all airlines and airports.

By that logic they could put porno scanners in front of every store, and claim that by shopping, you're "consenting".

I can tell you that driving cross country is much more dangerous than flying, for any sort of death. For example, driving cross country this past summer, we encountered multiple dangerous situations. Blown tires, horrible weather conditions, dangerous vehicle operators, etc. are all much more likely to happen on an interstate highway than in the air. I've flown across the country on too many occasions to count, and I haven't experienced as much turbulence as I did on one trip cross country in a car. However, it is a lot more fun to drive cross country if you do it properly, and if you are a safe driver then it is still highly unlikely that you will wind up dead.

WTF?

No we don't. If we want to fly, we have to go through the stupid screening, it isn't simply an optional test to take.

Government is all bad.

Can't believe the government apologists are even on here...
