The libertarian world has been doing a good job writing and publishing in economics, history, and philosophy. But to reach a wider audience, we need to go where the people are. For one thing, people read much more fiction than nonfiction. J. Neil Schulman’s Alongside Night (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1584451203?ie=UTF8&tag=libert0f-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=1584451203) is an excellent example of the possibilities for libertarian fiction. And now there’s a move to get his book adapted into a motion picture. Fiction writing and the movies are two areas where we are getting killed. We’re not even putting up a fight. A project like this can change that.

Alongside Night, with major endorsements from Ron Paul and Milton Friedman, its libertarian awards and rave reviews, and the intention of Free to Choose media to use the film in its teaching modules distributed to high schools, is an extremely rare opportunity to make inroads into the mass entertainment media. It would be great to see people of means get behind this important project (http://www.alongsidenightmovie.com/).

Now this is exciting news. Schulman's book will make a great movie!

I agree with Dr. Woods; libertarians as a rule are very bookish people, but we tend to forget that most people aren't. We love penetrating theses and epic novels, but if the movement ever wants to cease preaching only to the choir and reach mass consciousness, movies, video games, comics, web videos, and various other forms of media will become essential.

Now it seems, with Alongside Night making the jump from the page to the big screen, and another project called The Silver Circle also in production, we have two liberty movies with blockbuster potential coming out in the next several months!

Dont forget how much libertarian and individualist philosophy has already leaked into movies in recent years. I recall movies about money printing being immoral, movies about moral hazard relating to central banks, toy story 3...

EDIT!!!!!

I just started reading it this morning --- its a fun, easy read, but with only one problem, I could hardly put it down. Thanks for the link. I'm sending it to my sister and (16 year old) niece. I think they'll love it.

WRONG WRONG WRONG This book is NOT for anyone under 21! Yes, I said 21! --- Definitely not for the shy. This book has serious sexual interludes. One with a prostitute promoting pedophilia and another with an orgy in a sauna. And I'm only on chapter six. -- Needless to say I had to re-write my sister to inform her of my concerns.

Every time my mind wanders to book ideas to write, I'm always finding how to make the overall theme resisting tyrannical authority and showing how libertarian ideals are better than the shit shoveled on us now.
