A defense budget in decline portends an America in decline"

oh my days

A defense budget in decline only portends America's decline if, one, we are incapable of making anything but anything but weapons, or, two, if we have so pissed off the world that we can never, ever make friends in it again.

Guilty on both counts.

Of course the GOP isn't serious about cutting spending.

Neither "side" is.

The entrenched interests have too great a stake in the three largest portions of government spending. If SS/Medicare, military spending and debt service can't be touched, then insolvency and default is the only option left.

The military/surveillance complex has got both "sides" in it's pocket, welfare/warfare for all, complete fealty to Israel under any circumstances and bankster bailouts for the entire globe.

Yay...

Figured this what we would get when people chose republican instead of democrat. Time to start "finding" all sorts of reasons to institute more draconian measures such as the TSA scan or grope all due to "near misses" to increase the war budget. These people suck and that's putting it nicely...

McKeon claims even a proposed 1 percent increase in defense spending over the next five years was tantamount to a spending cut

This is the mentality of the average person. Only a 1% increase? Get ready for screams from the rooftops how people want to take soldiers armor away.

failing to keep pace with the rate of China or Iran's military growth will convince potential allies to align with countries that view the U.S. as a competitor or even an enemy.

Heres the best line. Totally ignore the fact that we outspend those countires 10 and 100 fold and claim we have to have the same "spending growth" that they do. The propoganda is so intense for the military its unbearable.

Of every dollar spent by every nation on the face of the earth for "defense", we spend 48 cents.

That's better than it was before (51%).

That's better than it was before (51%).

I'm sure those three points were not because our spending decreased.

Some nation somewhere is going to decide, before too much longer, that they have had quite enough of us just marching into and invading any country we want to, whenever we want to.

That nation may very well decide to pre-empt us.

That nation may very well decide to pre-empt us.

Looking at that chart, that would go down in the annals of military history as a blunder comparable to Napoleon invading Russia.

Well you have to look at one of the most libertarian states in the union....Alaska. You have a big spending republican kicked out in the primary and then the voters in Alaska turn right around and elect the big spending ex republican back in as an independent. When push came to shove the VOTERS want that spending. Alaskans can scream and holler how small government libertarians they are but in the end they voted for big federal handouts that Murkowski was good for.

At least the Republicans are honest. They don't pretend to be for smaller government when you look at their words, so I'm happy for that.
