Just a theory here, but I can't help but find the timing of the Quantas engine failures and the suspicious toner cartrige parcel packages with the beefed up TSA pat downs as being related.

Not that I am approving the TSA-groping, but I think they knew full well that they would only get to grope temporarily, so it makes me wonder, why do this? Well, one explanation might be that there is an impending air-based terrorist threat that they have inside knowledge of, and they know they can only get away with this level of groping temporarily, but they also know what the timing of the planned attack is, so they are beefing up as a response with full knowledge that they will have to beef down again.

Raising and lowering TSA security doesn't thwart terrorism. Terrorism is here to stay with us for the rest of eternity. TSA protocol is theatre for the masses while big corporation can profit and government can increase in scope and size. If any one of these terrorists wanted to blow a mass amount of people up they would simply choose a different place to attack. It doesn't have to be an airplane, and I can think of a good 10 places that have a relatively higher density of people in them. If someone wants to blow people up, they will, and all the naked body scanners and groping sessions in the world isn't going to stop it.

The only problem with this theory is that it relies upon the belief that they want to stop a terrorist attack. If they wanted to do that, they could just stop having the CIA escort known terrorist suspects onto the planes.

Have you ever dealt with TSA?
The last time I dealt with a TSA agent, I was coming out of a massive concussion where I temporarily lost a week of my life, and permanently lost most of the day.
Yet in that condition I still could have run mental circles around this guy.
I really don't believe that they're intellectually capable of anything as crafty as what you describe.

My theory is that it is security theater while idiot things like letting someone whose father has warned the CIA as to their risk purchase a plane ticket to the states with cash and no passport are let slide.

And I am sick of it.
