New Jersey will be holding an election on Nov. 8th of 2011 to elect 80 state assemblymen. We need you to become a candidate to push through a freedom agenda of nullification and lower taxes. Plus the salary for this position is near 50k.

You get your name on the ballot first. Google your election commission.

We are also going to need a volunteer for the state PAC we are starting in order to coordinate our efforts there in 2011.

Is the age requirement 21 or 19?

In New Jersey state senators must be 30 and state assemblymen must be 21.

You'd have to win a primary election against an incumbent.

Ok I'm a lifelong NJ resident, and I'm in if you think you can get me elected. The first thing we have to do is cover up my post history here, because I'm pretty sure that alone would make me unelectable, and I haven't even gone back and read what I said.

Heck, Gunny had like 10,000 posts in here and got elected. You'll make a fine representative :p

ETA: +rep for stepping up to the plate :)

I can't run since I'm not 21 yet, but I'm in NJ and would definitely be willing to help out with any campaigns. I'll design websites free of charge for anyone who needs one.

I'd get in touch with GunnyFreedom, jacque, and ronpaulhawaii from the forum. All of them helped out a lot with Gunny's race this past year in NC, and he's now a state rep. First step, if you're serious, is to go to the state elections page (just do a search for "New Jersey Elections") and there will be information for candidates.

Here's a link to get you started: http://www.state.nj.us/state/elections/candidate_doe.html

You can probably contact the state Board of Elections and ask them what the necessary paperwork is to file, and where you can find it online.

Yeah, who knew, right?

Im sure I can do it.. me and a friend were going to run for county freeholders but he had some medical complications at the time and the competing republicans disallowed all the names on our ballot petition...

Im sure I or him also can get our names on the ballot.. I just hate to admit that when it comes to state politics im pretty ignorant.. not sure whos a state rep, state senator, nor what the districts are etc...

Please keep us posted -- we'll do what we can to help fund your race, should you decide to become a candidate. :)

But, Gunny has always participated with honor and dignity. I'm not saying PaleoForPaul has not. I do not know, but I know may of us have not at times.

Yeesh, while I'm 23 so I suppose I make the cut for assembly but I also have exactly zero job experience and I'm still going through school, so I'm pretty much broke. If anyone's running around central NJ I could try helping out but I really don't think I'm candidate material at this stage in my life.

Hah, just looked it up and I'd be up against one of two middle-aged lawyers. Why is it always lawyers?

This is a very legitimate point and something we all need to consider. Should not have to, but we should not have to pay taxes either.

NJ will be a VERY tough nut to crack for liberty. There are a lot of smart and good people in NJ, but they are overwhelmed in numbers by the dull witted, entitlement-minded parasite crow, as well as those who simply do not have the awareness of just how bad statism really is. But give it a shot, anyhow.

I do have acquaintances who are (were?) very active in the NJ libertarian movement. I've not seen them in a number of years since my move to WV. If contact with them would be worthwhile, I can see if they are interested in helping out. They are in Morganville. Sharp, good people. Send me a message if anyone is interested.

Yeah, both of mine are republican and lawyers. Which means I'd have to primary them. Although, I will be waiting to see when either doesn't run again.

How much time (hours on average) is needed in a regular week to fulfill the duty of being an Assemblyman or Senator? I am interested in running, but my time is already pretty limited (work, family)...

Membership in the Assembly is considered a part-time job, and many members have employment in addition to their legislative work.

It doesn't elaborate further. I'm not sure who you would contact to get info like that....perhaps the state elections board?

Either because they're already good at public speaking, or as another poster mentioned, the vampire theory.

Plus bullshit is what they're good at. Take a guy like me, I work as a computer programmer. There is a minimal amount of bullshitting people involved, most of my work involves problem solving. However bullshiting is what gets someone elected, except in rare circumstances.

It is a shame, because I believe government would be better served if people from diverse educational and work backgrounds were in office.

I live in district 21, so I'd be running against one of these two Republicans:

Jon M. Bramnick
BORN: February 24, 1953
EDUCATION: B.A. Syracuse University (Political Science), J.D. Hofstra University School of Law
OCCUPATION: Attorney, Bramnick, Rodriguez, Mitterhoff, Grabas & Woodruff
PUBLIC/PARTY SERVICE: City of Plainfield Council 1984-91
LEGISLATIVE SERVICE: General Assembly 2003-present, Conference Leader 2009-present, Republican Whip 2007-09, Assistant Whip 2006-07
COMMITTEES: Bipartisan Leadership Committee; Law and Public Safety; Legislative Services Commission

Nancy F. Munoz
BORN: September 8, 1954
EDUCATION: B.S. Skidmore College (Nursing), M.S. Hunter College (Clinical Nurse Specialist)
OCCUPATION: Legislator
LEGISLATIVE SERVICE: General Assembly 2009-present
COMMITTEES: Health and Senior Services; Tourism and the Arts

Nancy Munoz is an interesting story, her husband died and she took his place, or something like that. I remember it from awhile back.

I'm originally from district 20, and I could theoretically move back there and give that a shot.

They're both democrats in office there however:

Joseph Cryan
BORN: September 1, 1961
EDUCATION: B.A. Belmont Abbey College (Business Administration)
OCCUPATION: Undersheriff, Union County Sheriff’s Office
PUBLIC/PARTY SERVICE: N.J. Democratic State Committee 2002-present, Chair 2006-09, Vice Chair 2002-06
LEGISLATIVE SERVICE: General Assembly 2002-present, Majority Leader 2010-present, Deputy Majority Leader 2006-09, Assistant Majority Leader 2004-05
COMMITTEES: Bipartisan Leadership Committee; Legislative Services Commission

Annette Quijano
BORN: July 4, 1962
EDUCATION: B.S. Rutgers University (Management), J.D. Rutgers Law School
OCCUPATION: Legislator
LEGISLATIVE SERVICE: General Assembly 2008-present
COMMITTEES: Judiciary - Vice-Chair; Regulatory Oversight and Gaming - Vice-Chair; Telecommunications and Utilities

Has any "freedom" candidate ever run as a democrat?

I'd check into the races further. Do all of these incumbents plan to seek re-election, or is one of them going to step down? Always seek the open seat, if possible.

If not, I'd give it a go against one of the Republicans. Look into their voting records: are they your typical big-spending RINOs? Have they voted for things that clash with their past campaign promises? Have they voted for things that clash with the sentiment in the district among Republicans? Anything you can use as a potential disconnect gives you leverage to run against that person.

For assembly: 2 years in NJ prior to election, must live in the district you are running for.
