Economist and New York Times columnist Paul Krugman says the only way the U.S. will get its debt crisis under control is by the use of "death panels" and a national sales tax.

The national sales tax, referred to as VAT (value-added tax) and widely used by governments across Europe, will help cut the U.S deficit, Krugman argues.

Krugman made his comments on ABC's “This Week with Christiane Amanpour” during a roundtable discussion about the economy and the recent findings of the U.S. Debt Reduction Commission.

Here's the key excerpt:

"Some years down the pike, we're going to get the real solution, which is going to be a combination of death panels and sales taxes. It's going to be that we're actually going to take Medicare under control, and we're going to have to get some additional revenue, probably from a VAT. But it's not going to happen now."

Krugman is a fucking cockroach. It was hilarious to read about the Austrian School advocates who destroyed him on his own blog.

They are trying to get him to agree to a debate... I don't think his royal lap dog will accept, I could be wrong... I hope they succeed.

Did anyone catch Krugman's statement of our economic conditions in the US?

"The Deep Depression of our Economy"

Well, Barry, one of your propaganda boys just did a major gaff. Krugman finally admits, oh through the slip of the tongue, that we're also in a Depression too. Well Well

He was sitting on the right side of the table... playing a Republican

while the government can't spends tens/hundreds of thousands keeping alive every hopeless Terry Shivo case, a VAT is not the solution.

they will start at 5%, and every crisis will mean a temporary higher rate that never drops; while income tax rates go up and down sales/VAT is one direction

Debates are so old school. You see, that would imply that there might be other intelligent views besides his own.

Wow!!! Previously it was that anyone who used the term death panel was a tin foil hatter and now we can look forward to it being an acceptable part of our daily lexicon as a means to a balanced budget. :(

Yes I thought death panels was a dirty word?

This is going to be fun.

There is a quote in Atlas Shrugged where Dr. Ferris advocates executing two out of every ten citizens in order to ably feed and clothe the rest.

So spend recklessly, debase the currency, and when a problem arises just kill the old people. How f'n sick! Damn, I really think this type of thinking is growing out of control, especially in the government. I hear kids at my college espouse this type of shit. This country is going to hell in a handbasket... buckle your belts folks, it's gonna be one hell of a ride.
