Interesting piece overall, "Betting On The Gold Standard? Odds Are Still Long" (http://www.npr.org/2010/11/13/131297988/gold-standard?ps=cprs), but this caught my eye:

Nine years later, Republican strategist Jeffrey Bell was working on Ronald Reagan's presidential campaign. He tells Raz that Reagan was always interested in returning to the gold standard.

The candidate even recorded a pro-gold-standard ad, but it never aired — except by accident in Pennsylvania. Reagan had asked Bell to put the ad aside because economist "Milton Friedman and some of our friends here wouldn't like that, I don't think, if it came out.'"

Thirty years later, Bell is still advocating for a return to the gold standard. He's the policy director at the American Principles Project where he oversees an operation called Gold Standard 2012.

No surprise there about Milton Friedman (http://www.lewrockwell.com/rothbard/rothbard43.html) but wouldn't it have been great if we had that ad to show Republicans that Ronald Reagan himself backed the gold standard? I think it would have helped change some minds.

I couldn't even imagine being able to parade around a video of Ronald Reagan talking about such kooky ideas. I wonder what Romney would do...
