I have personally been involved in (5) SM2 missile launches, and (2) ASROC missile launches, and have been on safety observation for at least 15 more launches of Harpoons, Tomahawks and other missiles. We put alot of sweat and money into our "birds" and part of that is the fuel cells, they burn very clean, a whitish-blue infact, not a dirty blackish brown. That missile had rather crude fuel cells, which tells me its not one of ours.

meh, someone could have just had a lot of materials and free time :p
Someone should do a comparison of a chinese ICBM launch with this, for a lack of a better term, thing.
Assuming we have one on video, which I'm sure we do.

Are the Chinese really that stupid? Why threaten us with missiles when all they have to do is tighten the purse strings? It makes no sense.

Besides, if they DID go to war with us it'd be mutually-assured destruction, economically and militarily.

for them or us?

for them or us?

Both. They have a massive investment in this country and our economy and government runs only because of them keeping the lights on. We're, by far, their biggest customers and sacrificing that would be a gigantic blow to us both. As for militarily, once the nukes start flying I doubt either of our countries will be terribly recognizable after that. And the ones that caused it all will, no doubt, have left far before the bombs fall.

The daily show did a great bit about this.

I did a little searching and I think this website has a really good case and a bunch of evidence clearly showing it was a plane: http://uncinus.wordpress.com/2010/11/09/4/

If it was a foreign fired missile, then it was either north Korea or Iran,

Or made to look like them.

Interesting observation about the color of the plume ...

It could be one of our missiles, but with a different/new type of fuel (or any number of other things being different/new). For example, NASA is working on a new rocket engine that uses liquid methane instead of liquid oxygen and hydrogen, or a solid fuel.

http://science.nasa.gov/science-news/science-at-nasa/2007/04may_methaneblast/

If this was one of our launches, and it's using a new type of fuel that we don't want other countries knowing about, we wouldn't announce the launch ahead of time to prevent satellite surveillance of the launch. My dad designed missiles for the Navy for 20+ years, and he said this is what they'd do.
