A proposal is in circulation now that would make the gun laws here even more harsh.. The way it is now, if a person has a known psychiatric history that in a doctor's view makes him unfit to bear arms, that gives the government the right to deny him a gun permit. This proposal would make psychiatric evaluation mandatory for anyone who wants to get a permit, no matter how clean your record is.

If anyone is interested in seriously studying the subject, the government just came out with a 174 page proposal that translates into "Some matters concerning the weapons law," Ds 2010:6. The social services, a public authority that's simply huge here, will also get to have a say in these matters under the proposed law.

Naturally, the Doctors' trade union is in favour of the proposal. They'll get more power and employment opportunities.

You can also check out the Youtube clip I made about the gun laws at YouTube - Swedish gun laws (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6A_BXxy2CEk) , or buy my book where it's also covered.

If only "crazy" people want guns, why do the police have them?
