WASHINGTON — Stepped-up security screening at airports in the wake of foiled terrorism plots has provoked an outcry from airline pilots and travelers, including parents of children who say they are too intrusive.

With the busiest holiday travel season nearing, fliers face long security lines and new rigorous pat down checks begun in recent weeks aimed at discovering hidden explosives. As a result, some travelers are questioning whether to fly at all.

The Transportation Security Administration has ramped up airport security after two plots by al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula. A Nigerian man hid a bomb in his underwear last Christmas and the group tried to send package bombs via U.S. cargo carriers but none of the explosives detonated.

To thwart such attacks, TSA is deploying body scanning machines to U.S. airports but travelers and pilots have complained about potential health risks and that they are too intrusive. The alternative is a physical patdown by a TSA officer.

"Pilots are not the terrorist threat," said John Prater, president of the Air Line Pilots Association and a veteran pilot for United Continental. "Seeing scarce security resources being used on pilots makes absolutely no sense."

Some pilots, male and female, have complained the pat downs make them feel uncomfortable. The group urged any pilot who feels unfit for duty afterward to "call in sick and remove themselves from the trip."

Hey, if the terror threat is so high now that pilots and airline employees can't be trusted, then surely I can't trust poorly trained & inexperienced TSA personnel.

I refuse to go through a scanner, and now that I'm thinking about it, I refuse to get sexually assaulted by anyone. And I sure as hell am not going to pay for it.

This won't stop me from flying, but I will never go into one of those machines.

I feel horrible for women, they get to be groped or gawked at.

The fact that they won't even consider bomb sniffing dogs for this tells you something about what their true motives are.

I wonder if the top 50% realize how many of those body scans end up on porn sites and other Internet sites. Its a disgusting invasion of privacy... It's Gross...

Probably not. "Justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those who are."~ Benjamin Franklin

I wonder if a muslim country's citizens would stand up against this if it were put into effect in certain countries?

Normally I'd agree with you, but reality check:

Couple of years ago some farm workers live parked their pickup at the airport dropoff and went inside to meet their arriving friend. security called to dogs who alarmed on the fertilizer in the bed and things were shut down. Backed up traffic for 15 miles...

Now imagine that one passenger with a colostomy bag or the baby that just gave mom a present while waiting in line.

Neither trained dogs or explosive sniffing apparatus will detect all types of explosives (last I checked) and they most certainly won't detect a plastic or ceramic knife. This is also a reason I have to laugh at the recent false flag hoaxes, as 2 of them have claimed using PETN and a mystery liquid. PETN is a very common explosive and readily detected by both canines and chemical sniffers.

Considering the cyclical nature of air traffic on an hourly basis, I'm really amazed no one has bombed the logjam of tightly packed passengers for what 20-30 flights that are packed like sardines once an hour, on the hour at the security check point...

then, after being disarmed of nail clippers and such being giving someing onboard that you can turn into a pair of razor sharp blades in under a minute once on board...

Yeah, the TSA is a joke and every rent-a-cop's wet dream.... Remember the body scanners came on the coat-tails of rumors of exploding breast implants. I'm sure the "manual density testing" portion of TSA's training program and job itself to counter this particular threat must be VERY popular!
