First Keynesian Krugman wins in 2008 and now this joker wins in 2010. As if we needed any more proof that the Nobel Prize is purely political. Obama winning the Nobel Peace prize after promising to escalate the wars is yet another example that we are living in bizarro 1984-world. Orwell would be proud. Maybe an Austrian economist (real economist) will win after these discredited Keynesian clowns further destroy the global economy.

There is no Nobel prize in economics. The "so called" Nobel prize in economics is in reality the central bank of Sweden prize in honor of Alfred Nobel.

The Sveriges Riksbank made a large donation in 1968 to fund the prize in Economics Science but they do not choose the recipients of the award. Nominations are made by people in the field as well as past winners and the eventual winner is chosen by the Royal Swedish Acadamy of Sciences which also selects the prize for physics.

You are correct in saying that it is not officially a Nobel prize though it is presented as a part of the same ceremonies.
