Rep. Jeb Hensarling is the leading candidate.

Hensarling has maintained a conservative voting record: he has consistently voted against pro-choice legislation, stem cell research, same-sex marriage and hate crimes legislation, and consistently supported free trade policies, the PATRIOT Act, and a Constitutional amendment against flag burning.

He supports the Patriot Act!

I think this might be somewhat related to Paul's support of the Texas Republican delegation regardless of their backgrounds.

Good for Ron (though this is probably a Texas GOP thing). Michelle Bachman may be more directly associated with the Tea Party, but she's really no more fiscally conservative than Hensarling--and she's inclined to hyperbole and untruth which makes her, and by extension the tea party, easy to dismiss. Hensarling also ranks higher than Bachmann on the most recent RLC & Club for Growth ratings.

So does Bachmann.

Neither Hensarling nor Bachmann are very good. Ron's doing it to cement his chances of heading the Domestic Monetary Policy Subcommittee.

That's all there is to it.

Yes. I am aware that he exchanges procedural votes in exchange for the party not trying to expel or blackball him. His voting record on actual bills is pristine, and that is what matters.

Ron has also always supported the texas delegation despite the chief crook (whip) acting like an asshole to him but Ron is a survivor

this guy will easily win and be a semi-ally for Ron. Notice how he touts RP's endorsement, what a turnaround from a few years ago...
