I have been highly critical of Michael Steele in the past, but he finally seems to be getting it. I am not saying Steele shouldn’t be challenged, but by Michael Duncan, the man who headed the RNC during 2007-09 when the party had its worst disaster in modern history? That’s like replacing a .200 hitter with a .100 hitter.

Perhaps the answer lies in the fact that Duncan will be a stooge for the elite in the party. Karl Rove, Ed Gillespie and other establishment Republicans are pointing fingers at Jim DeMint, Sarah Palin and the Tea Party. Their premise is that if only “establishment Republicans” had run in Nevada, Colorado and Delaware, the GOP would control the Senate. Political philosophy means little to Rove and Gillespie. As long as their team wins and they have power, they would just as soon be Democrats.

What Rove, Gillespie et all cannot undertand is that DeMint, Palin and the Tea Party actually have beliefs that guide them … and they’re not going to sit down and shut up any time soon.

We will be facing a great battle over the next two years – a battle for the soul of the Republican Party, a battle that might just destroy the Republican Party.
