It shows part of a Politico article, but someone chose to put that on the Fox News website.

Here's a little irony in the House GOP sweep: The next chairman of the monetary policy subcommittee -- overseeing the Federal Reserve?

None other than Ron Paul (R-Texas), who'd just as soon abolish the Fed.

Paul is the ranking member of the Subcommittee on Domestic Monetary Policy and Technology on the Financial Services , which oversees the Federal Reserve, the U.S. Mint and American involvement with international development groups like the World Bank. Unless someone bumps him, he's next in line for the subcommittee gavel.

Paul is critical of all the institutions he would oversee. He's long called for killing the Federal Reserve, and this year tried to get an audit of the Fed into the Wall Street reform bill. He's asserted that the dollar should be tied to the gold standard in order to keep it from losing its value.

The committee has been low key under Rep. Melvin Watts (D-N.C.). His web site says he plans to hold hearings on "equal access by the visually impaired to U.S. coins and currency."

It's safe to say that a Paul chairmanship might be a little more intense.

The Republican Conference will vote on Paul leading the subcommittee, taking into consideration seniority and Republican leadership's preference. Paul's office didn't return a request for comment.

Yep, safe to say.

I don't know why, but your last comment had me laughing hard. Perhaps the sheer understatement of it. :D +1 rep for you.

In any case, I hope beyond hope that Ron will get this position. Just the thought of it sends a tingle up my leg.

I think its a long shot based on an article I read...the Boehner's and Republican leadership is very supportive of Bernanke and doesn't want this kind of scrutiny.

"In 2003, Ron Paul was in line to be chairman of the Domestic Monetary Policy Subcommittee.... Specifically and solely to frustrate Ron from being the chairman, they merged the Subcommittee on Domestic Monetary Policy with the Subcommittee on International Monetary Policy. Ron Paul then complained to [then-Majority Leader] Tom DeLay, and Tom DeLay told [then-Chairman Mike] Oxley [R-Ohio] "Don’t change it."... Two years later, even though they merged the two subcommittees in the progression, Ron was then again ready to be chairman, this time of the combined one. [Then-Rep. Deborah] Pryce [R-Ohio] was dragooned to come back and assert a subcommittee chairmanship.... Ron at that point said to me, "I guess I have to wait for you to be chairman for me to have any authority around here." The Republican Party was a staunch defender of the Fed against Ron Paul."

That isn't acceptable. We got audit the fed, and before leadership votes, they need to know there will be a revolt if Ron doesn't get HIS committee for the SECOND time.Who exactly are the people who get to vote on whether he gets the committee? Every one will be up again for election in two years.
