This was just shown to me.

http://www.bls.gov/cpi/cpiqa.htm

The first FAQ is - Has the BLS removed food or energy prices in its official measure of inflation?

I was under the impression that it had.

What's the deal?

There are at least two different CPI numbers reported. One includes food and energy and one excludes them. "Core CPI" leaves those out because they can be more volitile depending on the season. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Consumer_Price_Index
