What do you think? John D definitely has some name recognition in the district to pull off a major coup if she steps down...

I think it's a fantasy. You'll get her power when you pry it from her cold, dead, fingers.

Did I miss something? Why would she resign?

I once was hopeful that after a NP resignation, JD would be better positioned to take her place. However, his super unfortunate polling numbers has me thinking it does not matter now - he has no chance against whoever runs on the DEM ticket.

Tell me JD will consider running as a Democrat in San Francisco, and I may take interest again. Tell me he's running as a GOP somewhere else, and I may take interest.

excerpt-
Pelosi and her allies adamantly refuse to entertain questions about a possible Democratic minority. But Democratic sources say they have a hard time imagining the 70-year-old, independently wealthy California Democrat would want to return to the less-powerful post that she held for four years before becoming Speaker in 2007, particularly after having spent the past four years driving the Congressional agenda.

Should Republicans sweep into power on Nov. 2, the pivotal question that some Democrats have begun contemplating is one of timing: Does Pelosi step aside immediately, or does she stick around for a few months as Minority Leader to help smooth the transition to her successor? Both scenarios assume Pelosi heads for the exits within a few weeks or months.

"It's pretty clear that what she does is just leave," said a former House leadership aide who now works downtown. The Democrat had no direct knowledge of Pelosi's plans but predicted she would probably resign from Congress in fairly short order. "Once you've been Speaker of the House, why would she just want to be a Member of Congress?"

Her power already got pried away from her.

I don't expect her to keep sitting in Congress as a peon. I give her a 75% likelihood of resigning.

I hope you are right - I would love to see her gone. I just pictured her more as someone who will cling to whatever power she has for as long as possible. I could see the scenario where she leaves though. /cross fingers

He would need to run as a Dem to win that district.

she picked up 80% of the vote...

if she retires, she may wait until

the summer of 2011 if only to see

how the HOUSE is after this january.

she picked up 80% of the vote, she

has people who are very loyal to her.

i doubt another Democrat could pull

off a win. admittedly i thought that

john dennis had one in ten odds for

a firm totally unexpected win over her!

we have two years to see how Boehner does things now...

nancy pelosi is a team player and actually has less of an ego

than newt gingrich. she may sit back and watch mitch mcconnell

aim trey grayson at A.G jack conway as he balances the tea party

people's demand for less of a debt with barack obama's high hopes...

Good idea! A low-turnout primary can easily be won, especially if support from Gonzalez, Sheehan etc. can be maintained.

No chance to win that district. It is not like Pelosi is just some popular democrat in that district. The people of that district BELIEVE in socialism. Relabeling anybody that is spouting free market words will NOT make a win in that district. Any attempt is a complete waste of money and effort.

John would lose if Osama himself was his opponent so long as John had an "R" beside his name and Osama had a "D".

I think the most likely event is that Pelosi will step aside from the leadership and not run for reelection in 2012. Her most likely replacement is a former mayor (Newsom?) or a current member of the San Francisco City Council.

Nancy Pelosi, the nation's first female House speaker, said Friday she will try to stay on as leader of the House Democrats despite huge election losses that cost her party the majority.

She may be helped by the massive losses- apparently over half of the Blue Dogs lost re-election in the House this year.

I cannot picture her going back to flying commercial .

I think you misunderstand the system. If she resigns, she takes a cushy job as a "consultant" to some enormous firm and peddles influence.

She won't have to give up private jets. She'll probably get one for herself as under-the-table compensation for some regulatory loophole in the making.

Maybe , if I was in her position at her age , I would retire and hang out at my vineyard , drink some wine and bs with the grandkids .
