Priceless...

As of tonight I am no longer a progressive.

But "progressives" sit and boo-hoo about how Obama is as bad as Bush, gnash their teeth and call for a primary so they can get a "real progressive" to run for office on real "progressive" principles and by smashed by president elect Palin. I am a god-damned socialist and I would never expect or propose a socialist candidate for election to anything larger than school board or mayor in this country because I know America is not a left country. I want it to be more than anything. But I know the history of this country. If this country didn't have a sizable black and Latino population, we'd be living in a libertarian nightmare far worst than the one in which you think you are living in. Yes, if it weren't for black and brown folks this country would look a lot like Chile circa 1980's with Milton Friedman as grand inquisitor and zombie Reagan as president for life.

A couple of things here - first, in some places the electorate ARE dumber than posts, on the whole. What else could be said about a Pelosi victory at 85%?

Second - the ONLY thing delivered thus far has been a change of guard. The game is JUST BEGINNING. If we creep back into the woodwork now, we deserve the betrayal we will almost certainly get.

Third - "social justice."? Jeeez.... you should know way better than that Jordan. We'll chalk that one up to late hour weariness, OK? :)

It was really just a joke. It's what happens when you leave rights to a group (elected fools) and expect to still retain them individually.

I agree, we just got a slight change. But we turned the GOP further to freedom, so I'm happy.

To play their game wisely we would be well served to start getting some candidates into the democrat party to infiltrate. This will get us some more liberty minded candidates in office when the tide rolls the other direction due to the republicans that jumped on the tea party bandwagon that really won't do more than give us more of the same.

I cannot fucking believe the citizens of Wisconsin elected an empty suit of a Republican over the best senator.

Wisconsin checking in here.

Wisconsin is a PURPLE state -- about 1/3 D, 1/3 R and most importantly about 1/3 Independents (and we have an open primary that lets you PICK which party primary you want to participate in, and then pick a different one the next time).

Feingold lost because:

The independents in the state are SICK of Democrats -- everyone from Obama (D), as well as our State Governor (D), State Assembly (D) and State Senate (D) -- so they chose to "flip the pancake" again this time (on all the "vulnerable" offices) -- the Governor, Assembly and Senate are now all (R). Feingold (D) got caught up in some of the angst against all D's.
Feingold let Obama campaign for him -- BIG MISTAKE -- granted he stayed at "arms length" away from Obama, but nevertheless, it compromised his position as a quasi-independent.
Feingold ran a shitty ALL-NEGATIVE campaign. I have gotten about 2 dozen glossy expensive flyers from the Feingold campaign in the past few weeks, and every single one of then is all about how Ron Johnson this and Ron Johnson that, oh and Ron Johnson the other thing too! (Ron Johnson, Ron Johnson, Ron Johnson, Ron Johnson -- I have to wonder if the Feingold campaign were even aware that all they were really doing was building name recognition for... duh ... Ron Johnson). Conversely, even though I am on LOTS of (R) mailing lists, I only got two rather "tame" flyers from Johnson, both of them 1/2 position stuff about "Ron Johnson" and the other 1/2 attacking Russ Feingold.
Feingold DID NOT run his quirky "normal guy" campaign -- which IMO was his BIGGEST MISTAKE. This time we didn't get a contract painted on his garage door (http://www.russfeingold.org/assets/images/garage-door.jpg) (see... it's been painted over (http://static.politifact.com.s3.amazonaws.com/politifact%2Fphotos%2FFeingold.jpg)) -- we didn't get brutally honest statements about how F'd up Washington is (see that would be critical of the big "O" and I think he didn't want to do that this time -- in short somehow Russ got politically "compromised/castrated" recently and it showed in his campaign, which was standard professional-politician "try to throw MORE shit at your opponent than he throws at you" stuff).
Feingold screwed up in voting FOR the healthcare fiasco bill (with all the crapola that it contains). Yes I know he believed it was the "right thing" -- but one of the primary reasons Wisconsin first elected and then kept re-electing Feingold was that he could nearly always be counted on to vote AGAINST these "all-in-one" monstrosity bills on the PRINCIPAL that no-one can possibly know what's in the damnable things. ERGO, buy voting for that healthcare mess, in the eyes of the independents that meant Feingold compromised and "sold out" on what we view as his MAIN value as our Senator. (And there was no "Oops" or even "I'm sorry", or "If I had a do-over...".)

And before you get your nickers in a twist, I voted for Feingold anyway (because I don't trust Johnson, I expect he will be a minor do-nothing, "(R)ubber-stamper" millionaire-by-inheritance/marriage Senator -- and Wisconsin already had one of those Herb Kohl (D) -- now we have two of them... blech) -- but it was Feingold's campaign to lose, and lose it he did. (And to that end, his opponent's accusation that Feingold had become "compromised" by Washington D.C. is entirely true -- his campaign itself proved it.)

----

Edit: And yes I know DeMint "endorsed" Ron Johnson as a "Tea Party" guy -- but I'd say wait and see -- watch whether he joins Rand Paul's caucus as an active solid participant, or rejects it outright (or the most likely of all, he "nominally" joins and then Benedict Arnold's the whole thing).

Bingo! You're not going to oust a seated republican with someone in the republican party. If you've got a non pro liberty republican in your district (that'd be most of them), consider being a democrat challenger. Just emphasize the antiwar, anti domestic espionage, pro civil rights and liberties sides of your platform.

Or, if you don't think you can pull that off, move where there's a vulnerable democrat.

Correct strategy for the same reason we got yesterday's result. It would be interesting to knock off some hard core lefties in the primaries, and give the D establishment the same dilemma the R establishment now has.

Now THAT is some good thinking there Brother.

The Democrats are vulnerable on foreign policy, torture, surveillance, on the drug war, on the Wall Street bailout, etc.

Agreed, I sincerely believe that this is the next step in the liberty movement. Of course, continue infiltrating the republican party - but now we must start infiltrating the democrat party. ESPECIALLY in heavily democratic districts, focus on civil liberties, patriot act, bailouts, war, surveillance, etc and point out the shortcomings of the incumbent and other typical democrats that are running.

I am not sure why he thinks Milton Friedman and Ronald Reagan are icons for everyone in the libertarian movement.

Even though the liberty movement made a few gains in these elections, there are still not many friends of liberty in either the Republican or Democrat parties. Hopefully Rand morphs into something more approximating his father's viewpoint now that he's safely in office, and the movement can educate people and politicians on the "correct" view for the country.

I've been doing a lot of thinking these past few weeks and at first I was ready to completely denounce electoral politics, but it can't really hurt to at least try to change the way people think.

I think liberals will almost be easier to convert (at least, some of them) because they are SUPPOSED to be concerned about wars, civil liberties, surveillance etc., and if we could possibly show them that the Democrats are just as bad as the Republicans in this regard, we may have at least a partial exodus. I'm not really sure. I would just really start pushing those issues like SV mentioned - and gradually introduce economic truths to them later. Again, not really sure if this is a realistic plan, especially with the messes we have now.

Because they are more motivated by philosophy than issues. As soon as Rand hesitated on segregated lunch counters, they decided that he was a closet Klansman, and that was that. Anything he says is either evil or a dastardly lie to ensnare the gullible.

Self-identified Republicans are scum because they adhere to a violently selfish and defensively hateful mode of existence.

They're scum because they pollute the body politic with non-essential and irrational claims to significance for anti-communal and paranoid fearful attacks on people that attempt to distract community attention from Republican efforts to steal public property.

They're scum because they would happily send others to die in order to increase their own annual profit.

They're scum and poison and should be physically eradicated from the body politic.

I don't beat 'round the Bushes.
The title stands.
Those that take issue with it really don't understand that we live within a war zone.
People that identify themselves as Republicans today are either brainwashed fools or vampires; the former might be persuaded, the latter must be destroyed.
This is not a political game; this is a barely socialized mobilization for survival of the species... and maybe the planet.

to tell you to change your title. Yes, I think Republicans are evil. I'm pretty unhappy with the selfish social Darwinism of the libertarians, as well.

From the point of view of European politics, the USA is already a right-wing country.

Think of this: on an absolute spectrum of politics (if such a thing exists), Obama is roughly level with Prime Minister Cameron (leader of the Tory/Conservative Party in Britain). That means that the average Republican is roughly level with Nick Griffin (leader of the British National Party aka Neo-Nazis), and the Tea Party is somewhere off outside the bounds of sanity.

And this from an apparently conservative country (Switzerland)!

GOTV? Hm. (0+ / 0-)

Tough question. Really...
I think of my Gold Star forebears as they managed to flee the 3rd Reich.
Yes, they hated.
Yes, they wanted to fight against the Nazi scum.
Yes, "level of effort" was a legitimate question...

When is it appropriate to denounce the evil that is manifest?

If evil cloaks itself in stolen votes, and asks for acceptance based on (stolen) due process... is that enough for you to give it credence?

Maybe the question to ask is not of me or the other, but of yourself.

There are *some* decent liberal writers. There were a few good observations by liberal editorialists, of why the Dems were heading for a crackup before this election played out.

Yet.... when I read Kos, or Wonkette, or DU, I can't help but get the impression that there is a short circuit within the average poster. It's a "cannot connect three thoughts together" kind of thing. They just want to bash the teabaggers, Karl Rove, Cheney, etc.

increasing environmental contamination, and loss of
loss of net neutrality (freedom of speech)
potential loss of healthcare (republicans)

loss of whats left of labor rights

This political and economic stupidity is mind boggling. There is absolutely no possibility that the GOP will do any of those things, does this person have any understanding of national politics? How are they writing for a major political blog?!

Even if those actions were implemented, it would trigger the greatest economic boom in our history. Every one of those items are part of the parasitic state that is destroying wealth.
