When shopping for a new anarchist, the United States Senate is the first place I look.

YouTube - Rand Paul Victory Speech "I have A Message From The People Of Kentucky!" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ku1TX9dvHYE)

You can hear the MSNBC liberuhls *shitting a brick* about his win after his speech is done, talking about how he could destroy the country and bring on anarchy.

It's quite entertaining.

I honestly feel this is one of the best videos of all time.

They are literally acting like Rand Paul will destroy the world- literally he could make Planet Earth explode. This is utterly absurd!

Incredible! It's Rands fault the US will default on its loans! Not the people who have ran up trillion dollar deficits!

I hope they're right. I'll be right there on the front lines the next few years to make it happen.

Every political action I take from now on will be for stepping stones to a stateless society.

The probability is low, but the smaller I can help make the government, the more I can compromise on my extreme views. :D

Three thoughts:

1) They seem to think that the single most important vote a Senator has is to raise the debt ceiling, since there is no other option, and other votes such as declaring war are relatively minor votes in comparison.
2) Not raising the debt ceiling won't lead to default. Tax revenues can be used to pay the debt first, then the remaining tax receipts and their expenditure have to be allocated.
3) TRUE BIPARTISANSHIP! All of them are pushing for Democrats to work with Establishment Republicans to raise the debt ceiling and prevent the evil Constitutional Conservatives from causing anarchy.

Exactly. It's hyperbole just like the bailouts.

even if it hypothetically wrecked the US credit rating (which is supposedly, by market processes already trading at AA rating as opposed to the still officially listed AAA), it'd be good, long term, as it would force the government to rely more on taxation than debt to finance itself...which means, of course, the taxes would be far more out in the open (and have less of a chance of passing).

What I sent to MSNBC:

During the Place/Politics: Decision 2010 coverage on November 2, 2010 in the 9:00 PM ET segment co-host and MSNBC employee Lawrence O'Donnell made the charge that Senator-Elect Rand Paul would filibuster raising the national debt ceiling. Not only is this accusation without any factual basis, according to Mr. O'Donnell it would result in destroying the US Government's credit rating and result in anarchy in America and abroad. This simply is not true, as the Federal Reserve has the power to monetize outstanding government debt to prevent the the government from defaulting on its treasury debt obligations. Lawrence should be made aware of this fact and simultaneously reprimanded for his lack of factual basis in his claims. A news organization such as MSNBC should not be spreading disinformation and fear. Please issue a correction if you wish to maintain credibility and viewership.

Preventing a raise in the debt ceiling will not result in anarchy or default. It will force cuts while making the Federal Reserve compensate for any imbalance (obviously with a negative, but very public effect on the dollar).

Agreed. It's *utterly ridiculous* that they would try to blame Rand or people who voted against raising the debt ceiling for a reduction in credit rating or default on the debt.

The ones who you blame are the ones who RAN IT UP - not the ones who took the credit card away and cut it up.

Yes, agreed. Lawrence O'Donnell, in particular, is giving Rand Paul too much credit to suggest that Rand could lead to an end of the global economy by filibustering one bill in the Senate. It's hard to believe how naive some people can be sometimes, especially those in our media who are supposed to be the educated ones.

yeah I think they were pretty bad. We have trillions of dollars of debt but that's not enough. We need more debt just to keep going. That is the most stupid thing I have ever heard. I can't buy groceries so I'm going to get another credit card. This logic makes no sense.

I think he is too. Mathews has been swept up in the Ron Paul revolution. I think all the emails from supporters and interviews with Ron over the years has started to wear off on him. He sees in Rand a bit of his youthful self. As it turns out, Ron/Rand seem to be right on most of the issues, so all this skewering is probably unfair in his eyes.
