View Full Version : RP on NBC NIGHTLY NEWS TONIGHT

NBC will have a story covering Ron Paul tonight, and possibly Sunday Morning. Here is the email from NBC Producer.

Hey Brian,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Thank you SO much for all
of your help (and indulgence) in letting us film the events last
weekend. The shots look great -- an impressive turnout!

Looks like our story is going to go tonight (Fri 10/19) on NBC Nightly
News ... it airs at 5:30p in the Chicago market). If you miss it, it
should be posted on the internet for at least the next couple of days.
-- http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032619 ( I'm pretty sure that's the
right link!)

Also, there's a different longer version of our spot that we've cut for
the weekend version of the Today Show. I'm hoping that version -- which
features more of the Chicago video -- will air on Sunday morning. If I
get more guidance on that later today I will let you know.

Thanks again for all of your help. Hope you like the piece(s).

Slowly but surely we are getting that $10 million of publicity. I would much rather Ron Paul talk to people at news stations that are actually watched as opposed to all the political pundits on the 24 news networks. I wonder if he has anything big between this and Leno.

He will have a chance to explain the Social Security thing in the Fox debate, hopefully. Also, I betcha most of the elderly people know that he speaks the truth when he says there is no money--it's gone. They're probably happy to see a politician speaking the truth for a change...

It was a bit too quick. I wish they'd spend less time with the Don Quixote analogies and had given more time to Ron's positions. "George W Bush has a very bad foreign policy," "there's no money," and "it's unconstitutional" aren't exactly the best descriptions.

No. That line just makes me laugh though. Abolish social security. There is no money. It's gone. He probably said what you did in the interview, but they cut it down to that little bit. Abolish the Federal Reserve. Unconstitutional. Hopefully it didn't put people off and it'll encourage them to research the issues a little bit more. But old people probably aren't surfing the net so who knows.

Hey everybody-

Looks like they got me on RonPaulForums.com! So do I get some royalties for that or anything?

Right above my computer was Human Action, by Mises also Man, Economy, and State by Rothbard, A Foreign Policy of Freedom by Ron Paul, Blowback by Chalmers Johnson, and Imperial Hubris by Michael Scheurer. I was hoping to get some free pub for those books but they have a wide enough shot.

Man it was fun to be a part of that segment, although they were way to choppy in the issues, and misrepresented them in my opinion. But thats another couple million who have been exposed to Ron Paul.

Yes!

Not to put too much of a damper on anyone, because we sure need publicity and we are definitely hitting the big time and this is great and all... But the jubilation here reminds me of when our current president visited the Republic of Georgia. The Georgians went wild for him, they felt so incredibly grateful that such a powerful country was paying attention to them. You can see YouTube videos of them putting on big shows for him and essentially mobbing him with adulation. It was probably the warmest reception he will ever receive in his life-- even neocons don't worship him like that.

But of course we all know how much influence the fearsomely mighty Georgian lobby has over the Bush Administration.

So we must push on! Onward and upward!

The media magnates want to make money. Now that RP is polling a solid 5%, they don't want 1 out of 20 of Republicans to be ignoring their newscasts. The more viewers, the more they can charge for ads.

Now when we hit 11% there will be a larger explosion of coverage. Hopefully real soon....like 11% nationally and 25% in NH, MI, NV and maybe 20% in SC

I give it a C+. It could have been a lot worse and wasn't a hit piece but it wasn't terribly positive either. The shots of the crowds were less than inspiring (they only showed small muted gatherings) and the one phrase talking points were kinda lame ("abolish it") The ABC piece was significantly better than this one because it really drove home the rush of support.

Regardless, at this stage any publicity is good and the bent on tis story wasn't "bad" it just wasn't great either.

ronpaulfan

Ron Paul is the greatest presidential election story since Kennedy. He should be all over the news and painted like a people's champion. Every time they mention Guiliani and Romney, they should be mentioning Dr Paul. All these bits and pieces of media coverage are just scraps to keep us occupied and make us think we're getting real coverage.

mkrfctr
10-19-2007, 06:22 PM
I think a lot of people here who are intimately familiar with Ron and such are nit-picky and miss the bigger picture.

It's like saying the font on the slim-jims was the wrong size and they forgot a couple bullet points after seeing someone hand them out to a million people for free. Who cares! Someone just handed out a (not exactly perfect) slim-jim to a million people who didn't have one!

You guys do realize why they put "talking heads" and "experts" on their shows, yes? It's because they are morons, that's why they are reporters and journalists and not the experts. They report on all kinds of things, lots of things they don't understand. You report on something you have no clue about and you get it 100% right.

Example, you have a 2 minute piece that can cover either communism in modern day china, the pope, extreme watersports, or amphibious cars. Ready, set ... wait, picked already did you? No pick the one you know the least about ... and GO! Oh and don't mess it up or you'll get about 20,000 emails on it if you do. *wink*

I sent NBC a nice email thanking them for their coverage, but also corrected the statement about RP wanting to "abolish" social security - He wants congress to stop looting existing social security funds for their own pork barrel projects in order to satisfy existing promises to those who have paid into the sytem, but RP wants to offer alternatives to Social Security fo future generations - anybody currently collecting have no worries at all.

If you do email NBC ( Nightly@NBC.com ), please be nice.

I also liked the fact that they talked to an African American supporter, as it kind of counteracts the idea that he is a racist without having to address it head on. How many of that demographic are watching is questionable but if anyone had already heard he was racist might think twice when they saw that.

Small muted gatherings? I was there in Chicago and it was neither! They did zoom in a bit on us and didn't show how we were strung out for several blocks but that way you could read the signs people were carrying.

This was too short for anyone who hadn't heard of Ron Paul before to make up their mind about him one way or another probably. But at least his name is out there to these people, now we need to reach them more in-depth.

Mixed message, but overall, good coverage.

Whether or not intentional, the 'tilting at windmills' theme is a smear, no question about it.

"To some, Ron Paul is the Don Quixote bla bla bla" Bullshit statement.

The out-of-context, one-word sound bites unfair and misleading.

This is counter-balanced by referencing the show of support which makes him appear credible, windmills, or no.

The urgency conveyed by the piece is positive.

Overall, I liked it.
