As an American citizen, I understand the importance of the U.S. Constitution to protecting Americans from tyranny. Last year's Military Commissions Act resulted in the destruction of the nearly 800 year principle of habeas corpus. This concerns me a great deal.

There is, however, a chance to reverse the Military Commissions Act and the abuses of our civil rights that have occurred over the past 5 years. That is HR 3835 IH, the American Freedom Agenda Act of 2007, which was introduced by Representative Ron Paul (R-TX) on October 15, 2007. I encourage you to co-sponsor this important legislation.

The American Freedom Agenda Act of 2007 is simple. It repeals the Military Commissions Act, it prohibits the use of confessions obtained via torture or coercion, it restores the standards set forth in the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, it outlaws kidnapping by the U.S. Government and its agents, it allows Congress to challenge presidential signing statements in federal court, protects journalists who publish classified information provided by sources in the executive branch, and disallows the use of secret evidence as the basis for declaring a person a terrorist.
