Not even sure what to make of this, and I've looked for coverage of the "Government Doesn't Suck" rally that was supposed to have run at the same time as this.

But I do know this, things are not going to get better when people like this are out there:

"I mean, I'm not watching CNN or FOX or whatever else," DiSilva said. "I'd like to vote, but I feel like I don't know what's going on. I mean, it's confusing. Trust this guy, hate this other guy. I don't know if I'm going to vote, but today helps a lot. At least I'm not the only one who's confused."

Things are not "reasonable" John, and "gay bashing" isn't the biggest issue facing the nation.

I'm not looking for "moderate bi partisanship" and "effective leadership", FFS.

I want the wars and the killing to stop, I want someone to put a stop to the, now settled law, that says government can black bag US citizens, render them to parts unknown, torture and then execute them by military tribunal.

I want someone to throw a monkey wrench into the headlong rush to "globalization" and the global government that comes with it.

I want someone to put a stop to the incarceration craze that has millions of people in prison.

Action on these items and others will not come with mild mannered bipartisanship.

Pretty damn sad when the two biggest rallies in recent DC history come at the behest of a self described "circus clown" and a couple of unfunny comedians.

Fucking Bizarro World...

Jon Stewart Rallies for Sanity -- and Against Cable News

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20021281-503544.html

The enemy, Jon Stewart told the masses gathered on the Mall in Washington Saturday for his "Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear," is not people of faith, or activists, or those who want to have passionate argument, or those on the right, or those on the left.

The enemy, he argued, is not Americans at all. It is instead the false image of Americans being pushed by the cable news-driven media - what he called "the country's 24-hour politico pundit perpetual panic conflictinator - that he said is broken and making the country's problems worse.

"If we amplify everything, we hear nothing," Stewart said, accusing media outlets of fearmongering and spotlighting extremists instead of reasonable Americans. He later added that the press is America's immune system - and "if it overreacts to everything, we actually get sicker."

Stewart's comments came toward the end of the three-hour rally that attracted tens or perhaps hundreds of thousands to the Mall - CBS News will have its sure-to-be-controversial estimate soon - with a message of standing up for reasonable dialogue.

At one point, the musician formerly known as Cat Stevens, who know goes by Yusuf, came on to perform "Peace Train" before Colbert interrupted him to bring out Ozzy Osbourne, who performed "Crazy Train...."
^^^

In "happier times", that would be really funny. :p

YouTube - Cat Stevens - Peace Train (live) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sjSHazjrWg)

Next, the music is out of sync with the video, but there is a crazy fan flashing her boobs, and Ozzy looks to be bat-biting insane.

If I could give you 1000 rep points I would....but, as it stands, please accept my positive rep. :)

^back in 1989 my head was buried in books and i honestly don't even remember this. From the little bit i've read, some guy writes a book that denounces Mohammad. The penalty in islam for denouncing a prophet is death. Cat Stevens, when asked at the time, stated the author was in violation of islamic law and, according to some news outlets, Stevens called for his death. But Steven's didn't engage in any violence or harm anyone, and my understanding is that it wasn't a public statement meant as a persuasive tool to initiate violence.

The apparent deep-seated vitriol and hatred I've since read in blogs today about Cat Stevens escapes me. What is your take on this?

Reason.tv took a camera and a mic to the rally. Pretty hilarious.

I lost it by the third clip or so. Nick asks guy in bunny suit why he came out to the rally. The answer: "Uh ... to support sanity." (Reminder: he's in a bunny suit and has a sign taped to his chest that says "Humanoid Rabbit".)

Funny interviews, must say.
I went to the rally with my "Defeat Fear, Vote Ron Paul 2012" sign, and overall must admit I had a good time. Good music, funny jokes, and fact-of-the-matter is Stewart made some valid points. Granted, we have other important issues to deal with so and and so forth, but what he raised is important as well. I for one HATE fear/war mongering and see it as the cause of much destruction of liberty, so that was the main reason i attended.

I love the guy at the end who says "if I had a lot of debt, I would get into more debt to figure things out"

All of us liberty-loving mofos need to get together and become a majority in at least ONE area. If Libs can turn San-Fran into their idealist city and conservatives have much of Texas, us libertarians need someplace -- NEW HAMPSHIRE. I wonder how long it'll take for people to realize this pertinent fact. These people at this rally, are insanely stupid.

Rally for Sanity? ROFL More like Rally for Further Conditioning and Domestication.Agreed. It's the Rally to Restore Apathy among voters. You're being taken advantage of in every which direction, but what audacity do you have to actually protest about it? They're saying that we should all calm down and accept it. The worst part is that people are actually being receptive to that. Sad.

I remember "crazies" calling for the death of Salman Rushdie, but not much about Cat Stevens part in it. Time flies too fast, wish there was a way to go back.

My take is if he called for a guy to be killed because he wrote a book that is critical of Islam then he is a fucking lunatic.

That said I:

A. Don't know if this is true and B. Don't care enough about a musician from the 70's to do the required research

BT, I've noticed this in many of your posts, a tendency to dismiss anything that hasn't happened in the last five years. Lots of history, that is still ever relevant, happened before you became an adult.

Yes, Cat Stevens aka Yusaf Islam, supported the 1989 Fatwa proclaimed against Salman Rushdie, a British author who wrote a novel called "The Satanic Verses" that contained critical inferences to Islam.

Ok thanks for letting me know. I say he's an idiot but an idiot who was popular 20 years ago isn't at the top of my list of concerns.

But yes he is seriously fucked up for calling for someones death for "insulting Islam".
