Democrats Back Third Parties to Siphon Votes (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/23/us/politics/23dems.html?_r=1&ref=todayspaper)

New York Times
October 22, 2010

Seeking any advantage in their effort to retain control of Congress, Democrats are working behind the scenes in a number of tight races to bolster long-shot third-party candidates who have platforms at odds with the Democratic agenda but hold the promise of siphoning Republican votes.

The efforts are taking place across the country with varying degrees of stealth. And in many cases, they seem to hold as much risk as potential reward for Democrats, prompting accusations of hypocrisy and dirty tricks from Republicans and the third-party movements that are on the receiving end of the unlikely, and sometimes unwelcome, support.

Good. Let the G.O.P. enjoy a review of The Lesson of 2008: Give us real conservatives or just fade away.

Should You Run as a Republican, Democrat, or a Libertarian?

Listen to this excellent advice.

Ron Paul: "[Larry McDonald] was the most principled man in Congress."
- The Philadelphia Inquirer

Ron Paul on Congressman Larry McDonald (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_McDonald), the President of the John Birch Society (http://www.jbs.org/).

Ron Paul went to Congressman Larry McDonald, a Democrat, for advice on running for Congress. McDonald said, "Run in the party you think you can WIN because political parties are irrelevant." This made Ron Paul become a Republican.

That's why people need to follow Ron Paul's strategy.

Yes. That's why people need to understand that political parties are BULLSHIT! The party doesn't matter. They don't have concrete views and are subjected to tons of manipulation. That is why we have to do just like Paul and McDonald suggest, run in the party you think you can win! If liberty candidates win enough seats under the elephant in the next few elections, the Republican Party would pretty much be forced to change their platform to match ours. If the Republican Party changes their platform, the Democratic Party will be forced to shift theirs so they don't lose.
It goes both ways, however. I think that is part of the reason why we are in this mess. Through the 90's and other portions of the latter half of the 20th century, the Dem's message was strong. That is why the Republican Party shifted their platform and became "neo-conservative..." which isn't a big change from the liberal point of view. However, all the old republicans still followed along.
One of the biggest battles the movement will be to enact a shift of political views in the republicans as well as the democrats and every independent in between and every radical on the fringe.

Larry McDonald: Run in the party you think you can WIN because political parties are irrelevant

This quote can quickly become misused. People can use it to elevate winning over principles.

And I strongly disagree with the idea that parties are irrelevant. Clearly they aren't irrelevant for most people in the nation.

Maybe Larry means both parties are owned by the Establishment, I'm not sure what he was really saying there.

If Democrats are going to support Libertarian Party candidates, then the LP needs to run more candidates to get libertarian ideas out there.

Larry McDonald gave that advice to Ron Paul. It worked and Ron Paul currently a Congressman in Texas for the Republican Party.
