How serious of an impact would a Senator Rand Paul have on Ron Paul's 2012 Presidential appeal?
Would it be enough to propel Ron as a "serious" and more "mainstream" candidate that would appeal to a larger Republican base?
Or would Rand's Senate position have no bearing on the mainstream conservative opinions on Ron?
Given the GOP's distaste for Ron Paul, I must say I am quite surprised as to how openly the Tea Party, who is mostly neoconservative, has embraced Rand. However, I think this is the case because he speaks their language; a more diluted brand of libertarianism that isn't as principled and consistent as the kind Ron has advocated all his life.
Nevertheless, I'm interested to see whether Rand's potential Senate position would open the gateway to the mainstream being more open to Ron's stricter interpretation of the Constitution and of limited government.
