NEW YORK -- There's an unusual candor about John Dennis that you don't often get from a politician who's running in one of the two major parties. But then again, a small businessman from New Jersey who grew up in a housing project can afford to be candid and honest when the media has marginalized him as a mere outlier against the most powerful person in congress, Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi.

He's not even a politician. In fact, Dennis had rarely engaged the political realm until the 2008 Presidential election, in which he actively campaigned for Republican party outcast, Ron Paul. This time around it's Paul helping out Dennis, who he has endorsed.

The question is: Can John Dennis be taken seriously as a Republican when he's running on an anti-war, pro-civil liberties, anti-corporatist, pro-marijuana platform? In Dennis' own formulation, it's the only way to seriously challenge Pelosi, whom he has characterized as a "blatant corporatist."

In this blog, I want to argue that despite running as a Republican, Dennis is essentially running on a pragmatic, progressive agenda that brings together the most salient issues across parties. Issue by issue, I will outlined why liberals, as well as conservatives, should consider Dennis over Pelosi in San Francisco.

We should start commenting positive things now so everyone will think that's what everyone thinks (as the sheep will follow)

The article has been posted for an hour and still no comments? That seems a bit strange.

And yet they bizarrely continue to rabidly back Conway, who should be far worse from their perspective than Pelosi, over Paul.

The last paragraph is atrocious. It's clumsy and confusing.

I had to carefully read it but I wouldn't call it atrocious.

Partisans don't care about logic, they couldn't care less if one candidate is closer to their actual views if that candidate happens to be from a differing party. People are psychotic.

I guess I expect more from people who write for a living, or at least semi-professionally as I assume these HP bloggers do.

How is it atrocious?

I know the point he was making. Just seems like it could have been made in a clearer way.

He also fixed a few typos since I made my first comment.

"Stop making sense. San Franciscans would vote for a farm animal with a D in front of her name rather than vote for an R, regardless of how exemplary. Sesame Street politics. "This candidate is brought to you by the letter D." The irony is, because of the old school GOP machine, it is difficult for a candidate of Dennis's quality to win an R primary anywhere that isn't dominated by the establishment D's. "

LOL, did anyone here write that comment? Made me laugh big times!

Good to see some liberal/progressive types wake up.

Unfortunately, most are not so politically aware, and will just vote for anyone with a "D" next to their name.
