Russ Feingold and his GOP challenger Ron Johnson answer a question about how close they are to the beliefs of the Tea Party. (http://althouse.blogspot.com/2010/10/russ-feingold-and-his-gop-challenger.html)

Well, based on this debate, I would say he is. Johnson is a neocon who is for the patriot act, and other freedom restricting laws.

You can't claim to be for small government and be for the very laws that have given the power to the feds to control our lives. He is part of the problem just as much, if not more than Feingold.

I watched the debate and I kept going back and forth over who I want to win.

I'll take a potential hater of liberty over a proven hater of liberty.

Feingold is an 18-year incumbent who has proven to be anti-first amendment (McCain-Feingold), anti-second amendment (F from NRA and GOA) and loose with tax dollars (voted for the stimulus.) He deserves to lose. Johnson on the other hand, is just a random CEO of a plastics company that hasn't voted for anything wrong...yet, at least.

Plus I read today the unions are out trying a last-ditch effort to save Feingold (http://pajamasmedia.com/blog/the-battle-for-america-2010-labor-unions-looking-to-rescue-feingold-in-wisconsin/).

I wonder why he received an F. His record and statements are about as good as it gets for a democrat, enough to where he thinks he can criticise Johnson for supporting licensing for guns.

I want Feingold to win this race. He may be a Democrat, but he has principles and we need people who are willing to listen and willing to defy party lines when necessary.

What clinched it for me is that he actually declared that he did not want the DNSC to invest in his race. That is political suicide! Any incumbent in his position at the polls would generally welcome the non-controversial entrance of the party into the race on his/her behalf. Feingold had no reason to do this except for what he stated- he believes outside money buying a race is bad. I respect somebody who is consistent in their principles- it is one thing that always draws me back to Dr. Paul, and it is why we need Feingold to beat Johnson.

Yay for Gun Control, Universal Health Care, and abolishing the First Amendment!

Looking up the NRA's grade, the F waas from 1998, while their latest ranking is a C. The reason they stated for the C that he voted for Sotomayor and Kagin, not for any policy difference.

And yay destruction of civil liberties and endless war for Johnson!

At least he has studied the Constitution. Did you check out Ron Johnson? He has stated that he has read the Constitution 3 times, maybe 5 or 6...

How can we even expect him to read the bills in Congress?

So what? Feingold doesn't sit in the Supreme Court. What matters is who he votes for to put in the Supreme Court.

Feingold was only against the Patriot Act when President Bush was in office. He's fine with Obama having the powers in the Patriot Act. He didn't try to hold up the Patriot Act the last time around. It went through on a unanimous voice vote.

Actually, the NRA downgraded Feingold for his Kagan/Soto votes. They boosted his grade because of his votes.

"The Democratic incumbent earned points for a number of pro-gun votes, she said, but he was downgraded in part because he voted to confirm U.S. Supreme Court nominees Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor, whom the NRA considered antigun."

I doubt that Ron Johnson is really scaring the machine.
