There's one thing Democrats, Republicans, and independents in Connecticut agree on: they want this to be Joe Lieberman's last term in the US Senate. Only 24% of voters in the state say they would vote to reelect Lieberman in 2012 to 66% who say they will vote to replace him. Majorities of Democrats (72%), independents (63%), and Republicans (61%) alike say it's time to swap out Lieberman for someone new.

--snip--

Lieberman doesn't just lose to hypothetical opponents. In a three way with Chris Murphy as the Democrat and Peter Schiff as the Republican he gets only 19% to 39% for Murphy and 25% for Schiff. If you substitute in Jodi Rell for Schiff as the Republican Lieberman's support drops even further to 17% with Murphy still leading at 37% and Rell at 29%. And in a direct head to head with Murphy Lieberman trails by a 47-33 margin.

Schiff beating Lieberman. I'm pleasantly surprised.

This is great news. Schiff needs to put out a video on his thoughts on this poll.

Need cross tabs to see how many Joe supporters are Republicans and thus would go for Peter with a little campaigning.

Not awesome, not terrible, but I doubt 2012 will have the same Republican intensity as 2010.

Joe is a fascist. He supports big government abroad, and in every aspect of our lives at home. He is definitely the worst senator. I can't wait until we get rid of him.

You don't know that some states are a little behind the national stage, my home state of WV being one of them on other issues. Connecticut full of liberals might just be a little behind the times on Obama and his agenda right now, but give it another two years and maybe for the state of Connecticut they'll have their fight for liberty in 2012.

I suspect more Republicans will leave Lieberman as the economy gets worse and they realize he is a socialist.

However, Republicans would leave Schiff once they realize he is anti-war and for drug legalization.

Huh?

What in the world is your basis for saying that? I can't imagine. He's like the worst of all worlds.

Lieberman isn't up for reelection though, right?

I think I hate him more than anyone in DC. Getting rid of him would be such a victory.

I thought Schiff was pro-war? He's not near as libertarian as anyone here, but he knows the economy better than anyone.

Oh no no no no no no....

He is worse than everyone....worse than Bernie Sanders in my opinion. At least Bernie Sanders wants to audit the FED.

Joe Lieberman is a statist on nearly every important issue. He is scum.

Like I said in another thread, I'll take a doctrinaire socialist over Lieberman.

Schiff is a waste of resources seeing as he'd get 6 years max in the senate. That statement excludes the fact that his comments about drugs would keep him from the senate anyway.

There, I said it. I'm leaving this thread for good now.

Schiff should probably run as a foreign policy realist rather than a strict non-interventionist.

What the hell does "pro-war" even mean? Schiff is against occupation and wants to bring troops home. He understands blowback. However, he does support bombing hostile targets if diplomacy fails. That stance is vastly better than Lieberman's.

I like the results of this poll!

Yet you hypocritically support Rand, who wants to impose term-limits.

Well, for one, Rand will actually get to the senate. Term limits won't ever be imposed in our lifetime. And I really doubt Rand will kick himself out of the senate unless someone of his caliber can replace him.

Jordan has an attitude problem it seems. "Rand will actually get to the senate". Its not a horserace. We arent here to pick and support winners, but rather support people that will make a difference. None of those are "a waste of resources" if they are for real.

He's not pro-war but he's not quite the same as Ron Paul either. He opposed the Iraq War from the beginning (that should tell you something) though I'm not sure what he has said about Afghanistan. He does generally consider Iran to be a threat and would support military intervention to destroy their nuclear facilities (not invade and nation-build) if he had confirmation that they were developing nuclear weapons.

I also recommend listening to the last interview he did with Alex Jones where Alex thoroughly grilled him on his war views. His answers made a lot of sense, even if you don't entirely agree with him

The winners are the only ones who make a difference. The losers don't even get a footnote in history.

Look, Schiff's an honorable guy, he's made some great predictions, but he lives in a shitty state and he has a problem in marketing his message. Besides, did anyone actually feel like he was absolutely, positively 100% invested until the last month of the race?

And yeah, they are wastes of resources. We won't make a dent in the political landscape unless we win and hold districts. Winning once then turning it over brings us back to square one. Connecticut just happens to be one of those states that is strongly Dem, so if a rep wins in a super high R+ year, they're likely to be gone six years later. Six years of a few people out of 100 doesn't do us a bit of good, we need accumulation!
