View Full Version : First Contact Coming Soon! Mysterious pulse of light from newly-discovered 2nd Earth

An astronomer picked up a mysterious pulse of light coming from the direction of the newly discovered Earth-like planet almost two years ago, it has emerged.

Dr Ragbir Bhathal, a scientist at the University of Western Sydney, picked up the odd signal in December 2008, long before it was announced that the star Gliese 581 has habitable planets in orbit around it.

A member of the Australian chapter of SETI, the organisation that looks for communication from distant planets, Dr Bhathal had been sweeping the skies when he discovered a 'suspicious' signal from an area of the galaxy that holds the newly-discovered Gliese 581g.

The remarkable coincidence adds another layer of mystery to the announcement last night that scientists had discovered another planet in the system: Gliese 581g - the most Earth-like planet ever found.

Then we will look back fondly on the days when we thought those that believed in aliens from other planets were crazy. :D

Hmm, looks like the image in my previous post isn't working. Oh welll... It was quite amusing :p

@ nobody's_hero

Indeed! The neocons will see them as a "threat to national security" and declare that we need a global government and a global missle defence shield and... many other things.

Found this comment on a YouTube video where someone was talking about this:
Turns out the Daily Mail may be selling BS.

The coordinates associated with the anomalous signal (that has not been confirmed by Dr Ragbir as having an extraterrestrial origin) are seemingly from some place in the Tucana constellation. Meanwhile, Gliese 581 is in the Libra constellation, which is not even adjacent to Tucana.

Even more, it says the Daily: "from an area of the galaxy that holds the newly-discovered Gliese 581g". Funny, because Gliese 581 is in *our* galaxy. XD

WeAreTheRobots 14 hours ago

This older news report does not indicate that Dr. Ragbir's signal was from the same area of the sky as the Gliese systems:

first contact? lol!!!

There is waayyyy more going on than you know.

SETI is disinformation. Believe me. So is MUFON.

Imagine the Federal Reserve forming a "Gold commission" studying the benefits of a gold backed currency. It would be total bullshit right?

But if so, how soon do you expect the Gliesians to go the way of the Aborigines and the American Indians?

Other than myself, you are thus far the only person I've encountered to ask this very question. We're so worried about them - shit. As as species I don't think we could be a whole lot more belligerent. Screw the Klingons - human have us in their sights. Quick, run!

I was dismayed to learn that SETI, a voluntary use of resources, has as their standard operating procedure to first alert the US gov't of any anomalous discoveries. Who knows how many signals they've found; if they disclose to the govt first there is certainly no chance that they would release that info to the public.

This is just another symptom of having monopoly central planner - the truth is irrelevant. Not that I think that there has been any ET contact, but with this single arbiter of information the truth just doesn't matter to the public discourse.

Look at the recent revelation that Kent State was triggered by an undercover federal agent - there had long been theories that this was the case, but the "official story" was the only basis for political discourse. Now that the facts have been revealed, however, there is no uprising against the liars - there is only a tacit acceptance of the lying. No one is calling for the creation of a second arbiter of truth, those that were right all along just get to feel smug that they were right all along.

The same could be true for any number of other theories - JFK, RFK, MLK assassinations, UFO knowledge or contact, market manipulation, justification for war, etc. Debating the truth of these theories is moot - even if true, it doesn't change much, and if false it just gives the gov't more authority to call any revisionist theorist a crackpot.

The real debate, therefore, is why do people trust a monopoly gov't, in any factual findings or any policy stance? And, further, what could possibly be a mechanism for arriving at understanding of objective truths - as the current system is obviously ill-equipped to handle such an important function.

Oh I ask that question all the time. We are primitive (if we're comparing to a hypothetical lifeform that has the capacity to send manned craft lightyears away), loud, warrior people who eat processed crap and like to make war and simultaneously complain about it. Why the hell would someone of this alleged level of intelligence want to chance us blowing them up, or polluting their gene pool (if not the old-fashioned way, then by chemical means), and what could they have to gain from us? What a waste of resources, to fly all that way just to mess with earthlings.

Then again, we do make a mean Philly Cheesesteak. Worth the risk? Hmm.

Besides normal biological life actions on earth such as normal conflict of survivial I don't have a jaded attitude against humans or life on earth. When you step back and think our planet and all its life forms are awsome. This is one fantastic world. It is like everyday life can have its ups and downs but overall life is one precious gift that people should use to it fullest.

Image at 1:21 was interesting but they didn't zoom out to show that it was really filmed in the sky, or give any other sort of perspective that would be useful for determining its identity, which is kind of sketchy.

I see your point, but you'd damned if you do, damned if you don't (zoom in, zoom out). And since this was an compilation of videos, the original could have been longer.

It'd be intersting to have some experts analzye that.

Perhaps
But I have concerns anyway. It really does not matter what they are or are not.
If a massive "disclosure" were to happen. (regardless of their nature or even as some believe just projected images (project BlueBeam ) it would have a huge effect on Politics. Both National and World.

It would make the Liberty Movement a moot point in a day.

I would say,,that concerns me.
