I know they all do it but why is it allowed for a president to campaign for candidates when they should be in their office getting shit done?

I think the president once in that position should be NUETRAL minus their so called stances on issues and policies but even then should hear BOTH SIDES because in the end that is what you are the president of.

They should stay out of the political races shouldn't they?

Don't we want them to get as little done as possible?

this election should be a referendum on the life and times
of John Maynard Keynes. Barack Obama needs to be part
of a consensus and he needs to state his stance as if our
nation is a glorified extention of Harvard's debating societies.
we are asking if we should modify our tax codes. we are
also needing to weigh our priorities. we have a big debt
getting bigger and bigger. belatedly Alan Greenspan contrasted
the tax approaches of the Republicans and the Democrats...
the "W" borrowed money and lowered taxes as he waged the
war on terror. the Democrats borrowed money so they could
expand many of our domestic programs rather than by taxing.
RON PAUL is precisely correct about our looming national debt.

Very messed up thread :(

How Can OUR President Campaign For ONLY Dems?

vs

Should The Prez Campaign For Candidates?

The thread title is specific to the current president and asked about partisan campaigning, while the second asks about any president and doesn't mention partisan campaigning.

To answer the first - HELL YES! He's proven himself to be absolute poison to the Democratic party as a number of candidates have found out and most want him no where near their campaigns. Lets hope he does campaign for some - especially incumbents. It also distracts him from damaging the country even more.

On the second part - in general: no.

As long as he pays for all travel expenses including secret service on his own, PAC or party's dime I don't care. But i have a hunch he isn't.

No, they should focus on their duty as president. To lead the nation. Not on getting hive minded people elected to kiss their ass.

Is that in the Constitution?

Is that in the Constitution?

My thought too.
I always thought the President was supposed to be the representative of and spokesman for the people.
Not the leader.

Wasn't it also the original intent that the Prez and Congress would only work about 20 days a year?

If we could cut them down to a month , that would be helpful to the economy .
