Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman’s office, however, as he delivered a speech at the United Nations calling for the mass expulsion of Arabs from Israel.

“A final agreement between Israel and the Palestinians has to be based on a program of exchange of territory and populations,” Lieberman told the General Assembly. Once a vigorous opponent of the peace talks, Lieberman has since changed his position to one of making the entire peace process an excuse for expelling large portions of Israel’s Arab population abroad, one of his political party’s core principles.

But while the most immediate concern is what effect this demand may have on the already mortally wounded peace process, it also underscores the almost ridiculous level of animosity growing between Lieberman and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whose office was quick to point out that the FM didn’t coordinate the speech with him.

The reality is that in recent months Lieberman, as Israel’s top diplomat, has been conducting an independent foreign policy at completely cross purposes to the Netanyahu government’s. It is this, more than anything else, that is sparking confusion about where this far-right government stands, as lip-service to peace agreements inevitably gives way to screeds about cleansing the nation of certain “disloyal” ethnicities. While the peace process may be dead, or close to it, the fight between Netanyahu and Lieberman seems destined to continue into the forseeable future.

This man is a racist. Despicable.

He does not represent the values that one would reasonably expect from a modern Westernized liberal democracy, so if Israel moves in his direction, Zionists need to cut it out on the "Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East" talking point.

There is no reason for our country to be entangled in a special relationship with Israel.

Is this a call for a "Final Solution" ?

There are a million Arabs in Israel, and 1.5 million in the West Bank.

There are some Israelis who believe that all the Arabs should be expelled and transferred to Jordan. That would be a heinous and barbaric solution to the conflict.

The two other options are to turn Israel into an apartheid state (by recognizing virtually no rights for Palestinians in the Occupied Territories) or to offer citizenship to the Palestinians in the West Bank and maybe Gaza (which would threaten Israel's Jewish majority).

It is too late for the two state solution, which would have been the best solution.

He's talking about the arabs who have Israeli citizens though.

He wants to get rid of the ones who can vote (and probably vote against his far right policies of ethnic cleansing.)

Hi guys,

I'm new here but does anyone know if Lieberman meant Palestinians who are NOT Arab or if he was referring to the anti-immigration policy that's recently been in the headlines from Israel in which they want to expel several Arab and other foreign guest workers who'd been brought in as workers and expell their Israeli born children too?

Or was he referring to an other Arab ethnic population block?

Yisrael Beiteinu (YB) is the third largest party in Israel, and Likud needs them in their coalition to maintain power. If YB leaves, then the liberals gain power.

YB wants ethnic cleansing of Arabs who already have Israeli citizenship. There plan is to continue taking land via the use of "settlements." After they accrue all the land from the West Bank, they want to trade the land they take for expelling arab citizens apparently.

Yisrael Beiteinu (Hebrew: ישראל ביתנו‎, lit. Israel is Our Home) is a nationalist political party in Israel. The party describes itself as "a national movement with the clear vision to follow in the brave path of Zev Jabotinsky",[8] the founder of Revisionist Zionism. The party traditionally represents immigrants from the former Soviet Union,[9] but has been making efforts to expand its appeal to a more veteran Israeli public.[10] It takes a hard line towards the peace process and Israeli Arabs, characterized by its 2009 election slogan "No loyalty, no citizenship".[11] Its main platform involves the creation of a Palestinian state that would include the exchange of largely Arab-inhabited parts of Israel for largely Jewish-inhabited parts of the West Bank.[12] The party maintains an anti-clerical mantle and encourages socio-economic opportunities for new immigrants, in conjunction with efforts to increase Jewish immigration. In the elections the party won 15 seats, its most to date, making it the third largest party in the Knesset.[13]

Of course devote Jews, refuse to swear loyalty to a secular state, so on paper he wants to get rid of them also, but in reality their party tends to hear no evil, see no evil and speak no evil when there is a contradiction.

This is a new law they want requiring a loyalty pledge. Note the law is not to help a religion but instead to help an ethnic nationalism. It is even anti-religious, but the party will likely want selective enforcement.

The Israeli Knesset is debating a bill proposed by David Rotem of the extreme right Yisrael Beiteinu party that would require all Israeli citizens to swear loyalty to Israel as a “Jewish and democratic state.” This bill is targeted at increasing pressure on the twenty percent of Israelis who are Palestinian citizens while forcing the ultra Orthodox Jewish minority who reject the legitimacy of any state not based on Jewish biblical law to accept Zionism. If passed in its proposed form, citizens unwilling to take the loyalty oath would be at risk of losing citizenship.

Israel is the most racist country in the world.

Israel was founded as a Jewish state so by its very nature it favors Jews over everyone else. Pretty much every country in the would was founded on either race or religion and has policies that favor said race or religion. Most countries are "racist" because of this fact. The countries that face the largest threats from other races are naturally going to have the most "racist" polices. Just like countries that face the largest threats from other religions are going to have the most hostile policies towards the religion that threatens.

Of course this is why the United States is different than everywhere else. The US was founded on a political ideology of limited government. I think a lot of Americans don't understand how other countries work because the whole reason for their existence is so much different than ours.

It's fine for other countries to enact the policies they want, but if they do, they should not be in a "special relationship" with the US, or claim to share our country's values, because Israel doesn't.

I know that Israel was founded by Jewish people who wanted to create a country of their own, but that doesn't mean that the resulting society would necessarily be racist.

I mean, look at the United States. It was founded by wealthy, white, men. And it hasn't been... oh wait.
