"There is not a company out there that doesn't have a goofy poll every now and then... They [Survey USA] are certainly the competitor whose numbers I trust the most." Public Policy Polling
(http://publicpolicypolling.blogspot.com/2008/09/odds-and-ends.html)
If this isn't a "bad poll" and then it is possible that it's just a "blip" like the one McCain had during the 2008 Election. With Fiorina, Rand, and others (http://hotair.com/archives/2010/09/26/new-polls-show-fiorina-and-paul-fading-thanks-to-screwy-samples/) showing the same trend at this same time that could just be it. Almost exactly two years ago in September McCain was tied to Obama in a number of polls and then got blown out. (http://www.pollster.com/polls/us/08-us-pres-ge-mvo.php)

And it wasn't just because of the crisis because Obama was already breaking away before the first TARP got up before the first TARP even got proposed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emergency_Economic_Stabilization_Act_of_2008#Pauls on_proposal.)

Here's the polling chart shortened from 9/1/08 to 9/20/08

If this lasts for more than the 10 days it did in '08 then it might be legitimate Even this year the Democrats were "up" for two weeks in July according to Gallup but it it too was blip. After that the GOP bounced back and had the highest lead its history of 68 years of tracking the measure (http://www.gallup.com/poll/142718/gop-unprecedented-lead-generic-ballot.aspx):

Everybody that has a financial stake in the campaigns/democratic process itself makes more money the tighter the race is.

Given the recent Rasmussen Poll (http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/elections/election_2010/election_2010_senate_elections/kentucky/election_2010_kentucky_senate) the blip theory is looking more plausible everyday. Even McCain's blip lasted longer. We'll see.

Yeah, I thought so myself reading about other races.

So much for the 'pledge' energizing voters on OUR side....

Found this interesting conspiracy theory after I first made this post. At National Review (http://www.nationalreview.com/campaign-spot/245449/obi-wan-election-not-about-obama-it-about-what-democrats-have-been-1972):

So keep an eye on ABC, especially Stephanopoulos and also First Read and Politico -- they’re usually the first-wave transmitters of the White House line. Believe me, they’ve already got a pollster or two who’s ready to bend some numbers and journalists ready to write about the “sudden Democratic surge.” I’d love to know which week they have picked for the "Democrats are back in business" story. They have tried it twice this summer, but neither polls nor events carried the storyline any further. They will badly need the networks' news departments to come through if there is a real domestic terrorist incident or some ugly display by someone on the right.

Mind you this was more than 3 weeks ago on September 2nd which makes it that much more astonishing since at the time Republicans were up pretty big.
