I'm surprised he ever identified himself as a libertarian, but to make an unrelated point, I'm always confused on how public figures are attacked as being socialists the minute they show the smallest hint of a non-libertarian position. Jesse Ventura is a good example... I just don't get it.

MAHER: I'm, I'm not afraid, it's not, I'm not afraid to say European socialism works.

O RLY? See PIIGGS, Bill.

And that clown calls the American people stupid for not embracing Barry's Big Fascist Medical System.

I'll never forget when he had Paul on for the first time and treated him like dirt. Then he had him back on when he found out he was anti-war to kiss his ass.

I had to quit watching him. Too much smug and BS to bear.

Bill Maher gets up on stage and tells people not to worship any one god, but instead worship him! His defense to why the American people don't like the healthcare, is because they are stupid. What are we three years old Bill. Missouri voted 70% against the mandate forcing Americans into buying PRIVATE insurance or get fined and harassed by the IRS. I mean come on that isn't even socialism! He is defending the corporate sellout Obama. The good thing about all of this is, the Bill Maher types are now just going to marginalize themselves into the 25% of Americans who still strongly approve of Obama :) Mix that with 1/5 Americans who are Tea Party supporters and that is 45% of the nation who are basically morons. I'm sorry to any Tea Party supporters out there, but these guys are following around Beck and Palin, spouting out Pro War, anti muslim rhetoric, I just can't get on that bandwagon. At this point, I just see the Tea Party as upset neocons! If the message stayed to the constitution, fiscal responsibility, and free markets, then I'm all aboard! That leaves 55% of the nation that aren't falling for the nonsense. When/if the Republicans sell us out AGAIN! Then look for a 2012 independent SURGE! I am way off subject now, just felt the rant coming :)

Maher wouldn't know a libertarian if a gay one bit his nuts off. Oh wait... he doesn't have any. Maybe that's why he hates them.

Never mind.

I love how Maher calls the American people stupid. I think the same thing about him, but I don;t want to make him purchase anything against his will. Let me rephrase that, I can think of plenty of things I would like to do to him but I respect his natural rights and have enough self control to stop myself.

Remember his interview with Ron Paul? "I thought I was a libertarian, but I'm Chairman Mao compared to you."

lol it's funny watching people getting all worked up over the healthcare bill, which was just another example of the state-industry partnership coming together to tweak their system a bit

it's not "socialism"

I'd rather have a single-payer system than the crap we have right now. Of course, I'd love a completely deregulated system above all else but if you deregulate one sector without doing the same to all the others (such as banking and the credit monopoly) you'll still have government-enabled "private" tyranny

I think Bill realizes this. That's why he said they should have passed medicare for all. I don't think he really like this bill either.

Typical liberal rebuttal. "But you're stupid!"

I hate Bill Maher. How the heck does anybody think he's funny? All of his jokes are terrible and then he sits there and laughs at himself like what he just said was the funniest thing ever.

Eff a single payer system. Just because our current highly regulated, half-government run system is bad there is NO NEED to make it 1000X worse. Thats just insane. It makes about as much sense as saying "I got a splinter in my finger, just gimme a bullet in the head."

And there is no such thing as private tyranny, if you do business with a private company and you dont like it, go elsewhere. Thats freedom.

Believe it or not Maher was funny in the 90s, I used to watch him on ABC every night and he made me laugh (laughing with him) and you never knew what opinion he would have.

Now he is only funny in the pathetic 'laughing at him' way, and his opinions are what I call 'standard left'.

I don't understand the individualist streak that seems to permeate through many socialists and leftists. They are proponents of the most collectivist form of economy and government and yet they love to think of themselves as humanists and individualists.

They dont actually have an individualist streak, Marxists are masters of using language and will co-opt words often used by libertarians to make it sound as if they are somewhat libertarian themselves.
